Again, this is what I was told by a friend of mine from High School who randomly sent me this email because he knew I was a huge SMU fan. So, you can say there is no way Del Rio is coming but it's what I heard from a guy, who is just not going to make something up to screw with me. From the beginning I thought Orsini was going to get a guy off the radar screen and Del Rio sure fits that mold. I'm not trying to mess with this board. I heard info, and I thought I would share it.

I am a big Del Rio fan and always have been. I remember being disappointed when the Cowboys traded him to the Vikings. I was excited for him when he got the head coaching job with the Jaguars. I wish they would let him wear the suit every week.

But, one would have to consider this unlikely considering he has never coached in college before.

"one would have to consider this unlikely considering he has never coached in college before"

The article someone else posted is what makes it very unlikely:

"Del Rio is now under contract...........at an average of $3.3 million per year......"We're happy to have that done, although it's not like we were going anywhere,'' Del Rio said in a radio interview broadcast by the team"

Heck the guy makes 3.3 million a year and is playoff-bound.
Unless gambino87's source knows something that we don't I can't see how this could happen.

I have no idea if this story or poster has any substance or not. I have been one that tends to believe the hype on this next coach, coming from SMU. "The best available coach in America", "the reason this is taking so long is due to the quality of our prospects", "We will get this right" Top 25 etc. With that said. Who knows what motivates people to take on certain jobs. For some it is all about the $. For others it might be the challenge or home state/school pride or just to be around the place you like. As far as the $ is concerned I think that it could go higher than 10-12m$ mentioned by the press, depending on the coach. It makes sense that if your a booster who has sunk say 30- 50 m $ into this school with very few results, and you are on the verge of landing a coach that has a 90% chance of turning this this around you may go ahead and throw in an extra 5 m $. or between several boosters throw in an extra 5-10 m $. I don't discount anyone at this point. I think it's possible to pull off a huge hire. Even this guy.

That's true. I saw Jimmy Johnson and Switzer talking a couple weeks back, and JJ said the only reason he left the Cowboys was because he wanted to move back to Miami. (Of course he may have just been spinning a bit, but he sounded pretty serious about it.)

The BC coach left BC for NC State last year just because he was tired of coaching in a town where the people didn't support college football.

And Houston Nutt just left Arkansas partially because the fans were too insane!

You can add Bill Walsh to the list and many more that occur in the business world.
