Please do not give too much credit to Bobby Collins and Jeff Bower for the success of the 1982-1986 teams. 60% of those players were already in the program under the recruitement of Ron Meyer. In addition, any four star recruits (Bobby Waters, Jeffrey Jacobs, David Richards, etc.) were recruited by our boosters not Collins and his staff (Bower included). If Collins and Bower did not have loyal booster/alums like Sherwood Blount, George Owens, etc., they would not have had the success they enjoyed. Collins and his staff from USM were new to the Texas recruiting scene and only got a leg up on Texas and Texas A&M thanks to our loyal boosters. On the other hand, Collins and Bower were pretty decent x's and o's guys.
