I have no idea what Orsini is up to ?

Postby SMUBaller » Thu Dec 13, 2007 11:53 am

1) Did he have conversations with PJ early before he fired Phil and thought he had him in the bag until GT jumped in and took him away with no back up plan and now we are scrambling and no one is interested ?

2) Does he have a BCS coach lined up who does not want to announce until after a bowl game? That's why there are no leaks on interviews cause only a few like Turner, Orsini, the new Coach and his agent know it is already a done deal but just not announced ...June Jones, Chris Pederson perhaps ? Maybe PJ helped his old bussy out by getting SMU some national attention with no intention of coming while we wait ?

3) Unless it is a NFL head coach ( which is unlikely ) why not announce a cordinator now ...it has already happended at AM and Colorado State.

Prediction ..it is either going to be a very UNWOW coach or and HUGE announcment ...afraid we are to far along for anything in the middle !

Agreed.

I just don't see it being a coach who is waiting until after their bowl game. That seems highly unlikely, unless it is the Mich St. or Boise St. coach. (Can't imagine who else it would be that doesn't make close to the money we're offering and not already in a tremendously better job.)

Agreed on the NFL assistant part too. I think that would have been announced.

I think we are still interviewing from all appearances, so all of these people who assume that we are waiting to announce an NFL coach or a bowl coach are out of their minds.

Steve-O better not be waiting to interview someone until their season is over. I think it is ridiculous to even wait to announce until a coach's season is over because they are killing their recruiting for next year in the meantime, but if we are waiting just to interview someone--we're doomed!

As I have said all along, SMU will get scraps from the table. We must wait until everybody else goes through the buffet line.

I guess I am now SUPREME LEADER!

I don't know about that. With all of the interested candidates that were more than qualified and we could have locked up at any time, seems to me Orsini is just holding out for someone bigger.

You cannot tell me that if we had nobody on the radar screen, we wouldn't have just hired franbowdenbarnettneuhieselmason and gotten on with our recruiting. That would have been the logical thing to do if we aren't trying to land a bigger fish.

Tell me - what gives you the indication that SMU uses logic in anything it does? If SMU was being logical it would have hired Barnett 7 weeks ago.

There is no way it is Peterson. He already told UCLA he wasn't interested in their opening. He has taken a non-BCS school to a BCS game and won. He did that with a WAC team. The chances of a CUSA team going to the BCS? Pretty slim.

I think Turner and Orsini are in a titanic struggle over this coaching search. Turner wants to hire a boy scout while Orsini wants to hire the best coach in America. It is a death match, no holds barred, last man standing wins match. Turner wants Chan. Orsini wants Fran. It's Chan vs Fran for the heavyweight championship of the world. $60 on PPV.

I suggest everyone get over the Turner is the reason for all the ills of SMU Football. This is on Orsini and not Turner. It doesn't matter, anyway. You aren't getting rid of Turner.

We are so screwed. Every day that passes is another recruit coming to the conclusion that we don't have our [deleted] together and never will. The blame can't be put on orsini, its definately turner holding this entire process up. And if it is chan I will no longer support this train wreck we call a football program, in texas nonetheless.

Here are the possibilities:

We are on Plan C since Nutt (Plan A) and PJ (Plan B) have already been taken

HS coach--nope. Dodge signed last year.

College assistant--hopefully not, but possible
College HC--Hopefully

Pro assistant--doubtful
Pro HC-- get real. Of the River is doing very well in Jacksonville. I can't see him leaving that job for SMU. What about Bum Phillips?

I agree that we are waiting on whomever is left over after the big boys get their pick. We will then state that he is the guy we wanted all along.
