But I guess it's safe to say it's pretty rare when a guy leaves where he is being successful, takes less money, less prestige, to take on what many consider a "nightmare"......but I do agree with you there can be other factors we are totally unaware of.

A point that I think is being missed and have said it many times. GF per another poster is worth approx. 1.5 billion dollars. Im sure SMU has other alumni worth more. If you are going to put up $5m for a coach, but find someone that requires a bit more, I think the boosters pass the plate again. Thats just business. I don't think the rapid rise for HC salaries was anticipated. If more $ is needed to get the RIGHT guy I think the $ is there.

Jack Del Rio would not come to SMU. His daughter attends LSU and his wife is from La. He was thought to be a candidate to take over for Les Miles at LSU if he had left to go to Michigan. Trust me - there is no interest from this guy to go to SMU. Would be nice though.
