Serious question: Do you think the Bush Library factors in?

Post by BRStang »

Do you think the Bush Library could have a factor in our coaching search? Seriously.

I wonder if Turner is forcing Orsini to be extra careful to make a "clean" hire so as to avoid any negative images of SMU especially in light of the expected Bush Library. I hate conspiracy theories, but I was just thinking about it.

I can see Turner envisioning that everything would be just peachy when the press starts analyzing SMU closer to the establishment of the Bush Library if the former hero of the Naval Academy was the poster boy for our FB Program. Somebody with a past a la Barnett...eh, not so peachy.

As much as I hate to think that could be happening, I can't say it is too far-fetched.

The Library will actually be the savior of the athletic program.

As in "the library will be negative enough by itself" or as in "let's not tarnish our shiny new library"? Eaither way, it makes little sense.

I think it might be in play in a lot of way's. I guess GF was at some kind of party at the White House the other day. It could play both way's. GF and the other $ guy's may want to put SMU back on the map in football because it WILL be on the map because of the library. When this library is announced there will be national coverage. (remember Clinton). It will be controversial. What better distraction than getting a big time coach?

Not the point. Turner could think that Bush & Co. could think they would not want to be associated with a university where all the issues of the DP are dredged up again b/c a new coach with a shady past has now been hired. Or, he may just not want to add to the inevitable scrutiny that will fall upon SMU when the Library is awarded to SMU. My point was going toward what Turner IS THINKING. Not necessarily reality.

SMU will be analysed by NBC/CBS/ABC/FOX/CNN and the rest. The history will be on TV everyday for who knows how long. The DP WILL be brought up. The Church will be brought up. Imagine if Clinton wanted to put this library at Baylor. The left and right will be brought up. I do think some/much thought has been put into this. It has certainly come up on this board a lot.

The only impact the Library will have is that recruits will be dragged by their parents to visit the library and those recruits will see our hot coeds and come to SMU. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

All you naysayers seem like a bunch of wayward sheep like the rest of your party.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

The official announcement of the Bush Library is the only thing taking longer than the search for a new coach. Good things come in time, I guess
