Stallion, or anyone else, know exactly the contact rules for Dead Period ? My understanding is still can have some contact but it is limited to 1 call or communication and not daily face to face contact.
I'm curious because coaches from Tulsa, Okla. State, UTEP and TCU have been hot this week at Madison talking to a few kids, including Nate Askew who is the kid who caught 4 TD passes last week to bring Madison back against Smithson Valley in the 4th Qtr. Askew is only a sophmore, but he is 6'3'' almost 200 lbs. and looks like a man against boys at this level. His size as a sophomore is what has Okla State excited.
Madison has to play nationally ranked Katy this weekend still without Devin Thomas (he signed with Arkansas) or his backup, and is missing 2 other starters so I expect Katy will win easily. However, some of the kids were told coaches would contact them after the game on Sunday. Is Sunday contact okay, or not allowed in this "dead period."

13.02.4.4 Dead Period.
A dead period is that period of time when it is not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on or off the member institution's campus or to permit official or unofficial visits by prospective student-athletes to the institution's campus. The provision of complimentary admissions to a prospective student-athlete during a dead period is prohibited, except as provided in Bylaw 13.7.2.5 for a prospective student-athlete who visits an institution as part of a group. During such a dead period, a coaching staff member may not serve as a speaker at or attend a meeting or banquet at which prospective student-athletes are in attendance, except as provided in Bylaw 13.1.9.1, and may not visit the prospective student-athletes' educational institutions. It remains permissible, however, for an institutional staff member to write or telephone prospective student-athletes during such a dead period.

Thanks much. So these guys can still call the kids on Sunday like they said they would.
Anyone know if we have someone at SMU at least calling the kids we are interested in ? Sure hope we do, if it is nothing more to just check in with them.

Here is the recruiting schedule. Weekends are quiet periods for the most part, rather than dead period.

There are also restrictions on the number of times a recruit can be contacted (something like one phone call per week) but I don't know the details. I am of the understanding that a recruit can call a coach as many times as they want, so a coach can get around that by sending an email that says "call me if you have any questions....., etc."

SMU ad official: "Johnny, I just wanted to make sure you're still committed to joining the Mustangs!"
Recruit: "Uh, well, actually, Coach Graham has convinced me to go to Tulsa."
SMU ad official: "What? Well, you're going to miss out on being coached by the best available coach in America, then."
Recruit: "Really, who?"
SMU ad official: "Well...*stammer*...I, uh, I don't know right now. But, he will be the best available coach in America...Hello? Hello? Are you there? Hmm...he hung up...."

Thanks huskerpony for the info.
BRStang -- Unfortunately Tulsa has done such a good job communicating to the coaches and players in this area that your scenario is not that far fetched.

SMU: Johnny, I fully expect and encourage you to talk to all of your options. We have a new commitment to football at SMU, and we are very excited about the caliber of coach and staff we are going to bring to SMU. You will be able to visit with our new coach way before you have to sign.

I think its funny that Orsini starting using the Quiet/Dead Period excuse about 6 days BEFORE it even went into effect. He obviously has confused a lot of SMU fans because apparently several of you think it began last week. No, that's why most schools are scrambling BEFORE the period ends.

Recruit: "I can't wait to become a mustang and play for coach Graham at SMU."
