At This Point What Would You Settle For?

I'm honestly at the point that I really don't care who they name as coach, just as long as a coach gets named. Do I think it will happen in the next two weeks? No I don't. All this search has proven to me is that it is time to seriously consider shutting down the football program. If THIS is what we get after we fire our coach with four games to go in a season, then maybe we're just fighting a losing battle. Personally I think it would be a shame that my university would have to give up football, but this is downright maddening.

Why would we have to give up our football program when several of the most successful football coaches around have expressed interest in the job? It isn't that desperate. Many coaches would want this job--or any head coaching job. It isn't for everyone, or the most desirable job by far, but shut down the football program? We're just not going to get someone that meets the expectations that have been built up with Barnett/Neuheisel, the "best coach available" comments, and the $10 million warchest.

Unless someone is willing to take a chance--and that would have to be Steve-O because he is the one out on the limb right now--we're only looking at a minor step up from where we have been, and we'll be overpaying for that by a long shot. Steve-O, go hire Gary. Be a risk taker. It will be worth it.

Our administration won't have a hire like Barnett. It would make too much sense.
