FordtoTolbert, I guess the questions to ask, since you may have the name: (1) Is he an NFL coach or college coach?, (2) If college, is he coaching in a bowl game?, and (3) when would you expect SMU to announce assuming it is after the bowl game or playoffs? Doesn't have to be the exact day after, but an indication of the time frame we are looking at would suffice.

mis spelled names? or names spelled in a way other than you would think...HHhhmmmm??!? Long Live Hayden Fry. Is THAT how you spell Shakespere? McBeth? Thanks, I did not know that...Jimmy Sexton is a pretty connnected dude, with pretty admin. babes...

Is it BOBBY ROSS??? former army coach?? that would be 3 for 3 with the service academies?
I have two other ideas. (These are just guesses guys based upon the hint given. Tony Dungy is one idea because his last name could be short for Dungeon. (Obviously out of the question.)
The other one could be Scott Linehan since his first name obviously fits the location of the play. Scott has been a head coach with the Rams for 2 years and is in some trouble this year primarily because half his team has incurred unexpected injuries, especially his offensive line, which was supposed to be a real strength for the team this year. He also has extensive experience coaching at the college level. The fans in St. Louis want to have his head on a platter and he might be looking for a place to go before that happens even though their GM (Shaw) has given him the infamous VOTE OF CONFIDENCE!

Just getting around to reading this thread this morning, and I was a bit surprised by your "embarassment to be an SMU alum". I think you have to put things in perspective, so let me help you do that:
1) The folks on this board and SMU alums are not the only ones wondering why this search is taking so long (see thread entitled "coaches on the hot seat blog entry - SMU" as an example). The length of this search could definitely prove embarassing depending on who we hire.
2) SMU alums are embarassed that SMU football has been nothing more than a punchline since the DP. Especially this past season where we started getting a little more press, only to have everyone seen us fail miserably at 1-11.
3) With important decisions, people usually have very strong opinions. In that sense, it's been good to see all the posts on this board. It shows that there are people out there who actually give a damn about this school and this program. Have some of them been a little over the top? Absolutely. But unfortunately the internet provides a forum for people to sometimes type up things they wouldn't say face-to-face (myself included).
So let's hold off a little on the "holier than thou" attitude and cut everyone a break.

A good number of SMU alums...in addition to a fair number of SMU students (those I encounter) and a clear majority of the population of Collin County (at least those I encounter and engage in a nonscientific survey) could really care less and are at lthe most somewhat amused that SMU does in fact still play football and that those of us that care hold out some hope that we'll have a 'big name' coach.
Folks that care (us) and those folks whose job it is to comment on college football are pretty much the only people who have an opinion one way or another about how this search is going, IMO. Want an example? Steve O tells Kate (I'm guessing) and Norm "no comment until we hire a guy" and instead of repeated attempts (that is, going past two or three levels of resistance...those that do negotiations know what I'm talking about), the media outlets instead say "ummm. Okay...." And no more has been written or said since. No conjecture. No speculation. Nothing. And no, I'm not saying the DMN has an anti SMU bias. I'm saying the DMN doesn't care, and the only buzz we get is that which we create.
