Re: WE HAVE A COACH - SEAN PAYTON!!!!
Its that damn Hugo Chavez! He's pissed beacuse I boycotted his Citgo Gasoline.
Sean Payton coached at E Ill. His contacts contacted him to look at Romo. Sean Payton wasn't a QB coach on Parcell's staff, he was the OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, then Saints Head Coach
"Sean Payton coached at E Ill."
Sean Payton was raised in Naperville, Illinois by parents Jeanne and Thomas Payton. Sean attended Naperville Central High School in Naperville, IL, starting as quarterback his senior year before graduating in 1982. He then had a successful career playing quarterback at Eastern Illinois University, leading the Panthers to an 11-2 record and the quarter-finals of the Division 1-AA Playoffs in 1986; while at EIU, he became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. "Sean Payton wasn't a QB coach on Parcell's staff, he was the OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, then Saints Head Coach" Payton joined Bill Parcells and the Cowboys as assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach in 2003, where he helped coach Quincy Carter, Vinny Testaverde, and Drew Bledsoe to 3000-yard seasons. During the 2004 offseason, he was offered the head coaching job of the Oakland Raiders, but declined the opportunity after consulting with Bill Parcells. In 2005, he was promoted by Parcells to assistant head coach/passing game coordinator. Payton received his first head coaching job in 2006 with the New Orleans Saints. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Payton C-ya @ Milos!
If you are suggesting that Sean Payton is that good of a judge of talent, then I think I might lose my breakfast. Not denying that (a) Payton may be the sole reason Romo is on the Cowboys or (b) Romo is becoming a great NFL QB, but I think that pickup was about 99% luck. NO ONE, thought he would be this good. If anyone ever says otherwise, they are probably high, drunk, or ate lead paint chips as a kid.....maybe all three.

Wow you must vomit rather easily....however that is not at all what I am suggesting.....believe it or not until I read this thread and went and looked up Sean Payton's bio I did not know much about him. When I was reading Payton's bio I saw he played at Eastern Illinois. When I saw that...... a light when off in my head because I knew Romo went to Eastern Illinois too. I knew Sean Payton was QB coach for the Cowboys about the time the Cowboys signed Romo. So it made me wonder if there was a connection. I have never heard of a connection, and was honestly wondering if it was a total coincidence or if in fact the Cowboys "found" Romo because of Sean Payton. As far as luck, sure alot of great teams over the past have found some of their star players through a fair amount of luck. C-ya @ Milos!
Re: WE HAVE A COACH - SEAN PAYTON!!!!Let me guess. He is bring Norm Chow with him to be the OC and Wade Phillips has agreed to DC.
I didn't think Romo would be as good as he is, but he did win the Walter Payton Award (1-AA Heisman) and had a really good career. I always thought he'd be a decent qb if given a chance. Not to mention he's been linked to Carrie Underwood and Jessica Simpson. It's good to be Romo.
Payton said he didn't discover Romo. He knew of him, and when a scout reported to the Cowboys that they should look at him, Payton was among those who reviewed tape of him and encouraged the team to give him a tryout. He has steadfastly denied, however, "discovering" Romo.
I remember him(hair wasn't so big back then.). He was at SMU as the same time as myself(early 90s). I think he was actually on the SMUt intramural team at the same time with that guy from The Office. Random.
