New 2009 Prospect

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was just over at CR and saw on the homepage about an 09 prospect we are going after, Givon Crump... this is what you could read in the free part of the article.

The annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase has become a home annually to state's best talent. This year's Tournament Co-Most Valuable Player, Givon Crump, has become one of the nation's premier prospects for the 2009 class.

I tried seeing what else I could find on him and here was a little bit more!

Givon Crump- 24 points on 9-13 shooting, 6-8 from three, 8 rebounds, 1 turnover in 24 minutes of plays

A 2009 prospect, Crump got more run on Sunday and took advantage of it. The big bodied wing has a superb touch on his jumper and has the tools to put up numbers in the midrange as well as behind the arc. A definite high major prospect, Crump's development on the defensive end will have a lot to do with the value of his stock.

Givon Crump- This versatile wing player is a smooth ball handler with a soft touch. He scored the ball from deep and also used his frame to work his way inside to score. At 6-foot-6, 205-pounds he is a difficult match up. Best suited to guard a small forward, Crump must improve his foot speed in order to defend a shooting guard at the next level.

Presently Crump has offers from UNLV, Iowa State, Providence, Rhode Island, UMass and Fordham. He is also receiving interest from SMU, UConn and Wake Forest, whom he considers his favorite.

"I went on an unofficial visit to Wake Forest," said Crump. "It was a nice visit, and the coaches really showed me a lot of attention. A lot has gone on there lately and their still recruiting me. They just haven't offered yet."

A friend of mine has a daughter that goes to Wake. It came down to SMU or Wake and she opted for Wake, probably because it was away from home. He said it was $36 thousand/year to go to Wake and $35 thousand/year to go to SMU at the time. He also said that their campus is comparable to SMU's. I can't blame anyone for choosing that school. I will have to check it out for my kid when we start looking in a couple of years. Of course, I would like for him to go to SMU, but he will probably want to go away like a lot of his friends.
