Questions on the Offense

I flew in for the game, enjoyed the first half because of a great effort by the defense but was frustrated. BTW, on this board, I am probably one of least knowledge about football game plans and play selection, but:

On two plays near the end zone, we ran a sweep right and one left on different possession. Even I knew where the play was going from the stands. A blocker in the backfield easily telegraph'd the play direction by not disguising our intentions.

Second, Phillips is very athletic but he appeared to want to run almost instantly without any thought of passing or even a faking a pass.

It appeared so simple. What am I missing? Is it the skills, experience, offensive coordinator, etc.?

Having said that, I am very encouraged by the improvement in recruiting, a new regional alignment, the facilities and, of course, our traditions and legacy in football. We appear to be better positioned for improvement and success since any time post-DP. The ingredients are here or can be avialable. As such, I see the glass half full. :hmm:

WP this has been debated the whole season. I don't know. Probably a combination of things. The classic chicken and egg dilemma. Players or coaches in this case.

Jan Hubbard of the DMN thinks we should give away Hummers to recruits. I'm against it.

Regarding the plays at the endzone you are probably correct but Phillips got the blame for not switching the play to the other side at the line. Perhaps it was more the design of the play that was the problem.

I assume that when he ran right away it was a planned QB draw.
