Bower Time?

Postby MustangPride » Sun Dec 16, 2007 1:43 am

It seems Jeff Bower know the ends and outs of C-USA. He's had something like 10 wining seasons or so in a row obviously leading Southern Mississippi to plenty of bowl games. I think he is the perfect coach that could turn SMU into a winning program and don't think he would go somewhere else as soon as we start to win some games given his history of being at Southern Mississippi for such a long tenure.

You know, I'm really not worried about someone leaving if they turn the program around. All I want is the program turned around. If Bower or anyone can do that, then good on them if the move somewhere else.. .It makes our next coaching search that much easier.

I think Bower would be a better hire than Kragthorpe. Look at the history. Krag was at TU from 2003-06 and now at UL. Bower was at USM since 1991 and did much better overall. If Bower hadn't had a sub-standard season this year, his hiring would have created a buzz. Even in a bad year, USM went 7-5 and was three spots behind Houston in the composite rankings.

Hire Bower!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's all we need is The DMN's six-part look back at the death penalty if Bower is hired.

George would be a good'un. I was initially intrigued with the possibility of Jeff Bower, but after talking to a couple of semi-insiders at So. Miss., I'm not so sure he is the right coach for SMU. There is a reason - other than the disgruntled faction that claimed he couldn't take them to the next level - that Bower is out after all of the on-field success he had there. To make a long story short, he's not the FIT that SMU needs - like Mackovic at Texas or Weiss at ND. (Death Penalty connection shouldn't be a factor.)

Oh, Good Lord! Get over it. Let them get over it!!!! Who cares anymore!

I sure as hell hope Orsini doesn't avoid coaches because of fearful crap like this. Let 'em run it, and cut and paste the part about 11-0-1 and the Cotton Bowl victory etc. etc. etc., and move ON.

I've heard the exact opposite from So Miss "insiders." What I hear is that people are somewhat perplexed and a bit irritated he got fired.

Thats what was said about Kragthrope[/quote].....................You can't even compare Bower and Kragthorpe. Bower has been a consistent winner for what 19 years. Louisville will regret the day they hired Kragthorpe with top RB's leaving the program now to rejoin his old coach and the their record already headed down hill. Bower is a proven winner. Kragthorpe has had trouble figuring out how to put together his staff since quality coach Todd Graham left. Krag. has had to fire several coaches on his staff after this season....Thank goodness Orsini did not get Kragthorpe.

He's evidently already avoiding coaches with "baggage" like Bowden and Neuheisel. And these two have NO "baggage" or questions compared to what Bower would bring.
