The school in the movie is called Texas State. At the time the movie was filmed, there was no Texas State University. There was Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, though. Several years ago, SWTSU changed its name to Texas State University - San Marcos. Their mascot is the Bobcats. SMU is scheduled to play TSU-SM next season. TSU-SM is a member of the Southland Conference in Div. 1 FCS (formerly Div. 1-AA). The Bobcats have flirted with the idea of petitioning the NCAA for Div. 1 FBS status for the past few years.
The colors of the team's uniforms in Necessary Roughness are green & white. Texas State University's team colors are maroon & gold. However, the movie was filmed on the campus of...the University of North Texas whose colors are...green & white.
I don't know if you exactly call that trivia, more along the lines of information that 95% of people know. A little known fact is the man in the opening scene barking like a dog was actually an assistant strength coach at SMU from 2002-2004(roughly) before moving on to pursue his speed skating career full-time.

His name was Sidney, last name unknow, affectionately known as 'Barking Dog Man'. He was hard to miss on the sideline as he was about 5'10 250-260, solid, and constantly yelled some of the most nonsensical stuff.

In the movie the first football team that the Armadillo's play, and get slaughtered by, is the Southwest Texas State Bobcats.
I am not sure if you know what to expect from Texas State and it's fans but I will tell you that the fans will be there in force, and we are very very very loud. You can ask the Baylor people about that.
I refuse to talk trash but I will say that you guys will be surprised, very surprised.

I don't blame y'all for wanting wanting get out of San Marcos for a holiday weekend in Waco. And now Dallas will seem like a European vacation.

I have been looking forward to this game for a long time. My Dad (SMU class of 56) and I used to go to both SWT and SMU games together. I have always wanted to come and see this matchup ever since I was a kid. My Mom (SMU class of 56 as well) and I will be at Ford and we are looking foward to it. I just wish my Dad were still around to come too. It would be a blast.

I wish I would have taken it, although I was there and saw it happen. It was at the Texas State/Texas volleyball game in the first round of the NCAA tournament a few weeks back.
