Perhaps, ED and CJ were used to help with the full court press of an identified candidate, and perhaps get them to tell the candidate that they would be available to assist in recruiting in any way permitted under the NCAA rules. Having one of the College Football Today talking heads meet with you or an NFL Hall of Fame running back shaking your hand and telling you how much he enjoyed SMU wouldn't hurt. ED still holds the single season rushing record, I think.

It's great to see #19 and #32 helping out with this search. The more of those guys we can get involved, the better.

I can ASSURE you neither one of these individuals assisted or iinsisted the search for a coach. The search is over. They are unaware who has accepted the job (as of 10:12 a.m.).

Yes the search is over. We are going on self imposed Death Penalty next year, lets just tear down Ford and play at HP instead.

It's obvious...it's not an easy job to fill (which again is obvious) and he's pulling out all the stops to try everything he can to find the best candidate for the job. He knows how important this hire is and wants to make sure he's done all that he can to get SMU a great coach.

Hey, I'd rather Orsini "beg" a wow coach to come to SMU than just accept another mediocre coach. If he's not out recruiting his arss off, I'm going to be really disappointed.

We want someone who is motivated to come in here and turn this thing around. We don't want someone we have to beg and borrow to get in here. We made that mistake once and I don't see it happening again. The best coach available also means someone who wants to be here?

Negative this, negative that and more negative....Now some question Orsini reaching out to 2 former players who are 2 of the best players in the football history of SMU and people are bitchimng about that ??? Because they may have said something nagative about the program over the years ? Who hasn't ??? I don't know what some of you will do if Orsini actually hires a great coach who does rebiuld the football program ? .....I personally appreciate him reaching out to Dickerson and James. I think it is smart business if he can get them more involved since they are both high profile former players.....Hopefully you can see there is not much positive said around here either. Yet Orsini says we can WIN here and is apparently trying hard to hire a new quality coach. He will be reaching out to us also as he has been and will keep trying to change all the negative attitudes that have become such a part of SMU football.

First thing. Nobody is putting down the program. My complaints are about the processes or lack there of that we consistently go through to get thins done. You need to seperate the two. We have a great program here with great facilities. I have said that over and over again. I continue to ask, why is it so hard for us to land a quality coach? ED and CJ will be more of a distraction to the coaching search than what you think. CJ has been on national TV dumping on SMU and now we want his help? I don't think so. ED shows up when it is some type of functtion on game day recognizing him and his accolades. Check out other universities whose big name players are on the sidelines consistently. Orsini has a plan and I hope neither of these two are a part of it. But Orsinis plan is this. By the time he hires a HC we all will think it is the best coach available. Just like we thought PB was?

Dickerson and James love SMU, but hate what's happened to the athletic department. Their comments on TV deriding the program have been tame by comparison to what I read on this board on a daily basis.

If Orsini reached out to those two (and others) to help in the search, I'd say that's a great sign of hope. I don't know how well Dickerson is keeping up with the college game right now, but you would be hard pressed to find someone more well-versed on the game now than Craig James. It's his job to know the game, players, coaches, etc.. well so he can comment on them on a daily basis on TV. If I were Orsini, I'd definitely have asked their advice.

I got home this morning and for some reason just thought that by tonight we'd know who the new coach will be. I have no idea who it is, but the thought just crossed my mind. We'll see if I'm clairvoyant or if it's just the lack of sleep talking. :-)
