East, you are one of the most logical folks on here. So, I hate to disagree with you because that enhances my chances of being wrong. Even so, I do. All your points are valid theories, but they have to do one thing very clearly above anything else right now: keep momentum going. Their attendance is up, donations are up, applications are up. They have to keep their constituents happy and the resounding feeling is they don't want to be cast with us. Part of that is fear of losing their edge, but it will win out. By the time they want to come back, administrations will have turned over most likely and they will be welcomed back, no questions asked.

Speaking of which. . .when the article estimates a $200,000 increase in travel costs for TCU, I assume they mean a $200,000 increase from travel costs in C-USA as it is currently constituted. The new format, with two divisions, would probably reduce travel costs for TCU within C-USA. Considering that, a move to the MWC might represent more than a $200,000 swing. [/QB][/QUOTE]

I don't think the froggies are that dumb. If that figure is from them, its calculated on the projected conference membership. If its from the media, and the DMN you may have a point
May the forth be with us.

That pretty much sums it up, although I think there is more concern about the eastern half of CUSA. Its obvious that Memphis, ECU and UCF are still begging to get into the Big East. If the Big East splits between football schools and basketball schools as most expect, CUSA would probably be raided again. The expected configuration of CUSA after the loss of UL, UC and USF isn't the main concern. Its what would be left if/when a second group of eastern schools defects. The MWC is much more appealing than the thought of a conference made up of just Tulsa, SMU, Rice, Tulane, Houston, USM and whatever sub-par programs can be brought in to fill up the conference.

I think that they see that Tulsa, SMU, Rice and probably Tulane too will eventually be unsuccessful in attempting to play Big time College Football under Ivy League rules. Without such a committment those school's constitute an anchor to the perception and reputation of the TCU program. The very thing that makes those schools attractive to naive posters on here like Water Pony is the exact reasons why TCU doesn't want to be associated with those schools. Not one of those programs is truly committed to competed at the highest levels of Division 1A. TCU has shown that commitment. How did I do Froggies?

you can bet that figure comes from the unidenfied source at TCU who did the study. This story is a mouthpiece of the TCU admin. Thats how this works. Leaks start to occur in various papers in advance. Then the announcement will come. The only thing that keeps TCU out of the MWC now, is if they are posturing to lessen the wrath from their alums of rejoining Rice, Tulsa and SMU. Pride, arrogance, ego, are all a huge feature of this.

I'm still not convinced that, if TCU is offered, that they will accept a move to the Mountain West. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced they will NOT go.

The Dallas Morning News article that started all of this stated that travel costs would increase by at least $200,000 a year. Add in the fact that TCU will have to pay exit fees to C-USA (have they even finished paying entrance fees yet?) and entrance fees to MWC. Then add in the fact that, because of the western divisional setup, TCU would seem to have an easy shot at the C-USA championship game almost every year.

The MWC doesn't have as many bowls as C-USA does (Liberty, Las Vegas and San Francisco), and should TCU win the MWC, what do they get? A trip to the Liberty - just like they do now.

Is the Mountain West a stronger conference? C-USA has two teams in the top 25 - the MWC doesn't even have one team receiving votes.

What's to gain by the move?

Remember these are the same people who are in a purple haze that think somehow the Big XII is going to drop Baylor and invite them into the Big 12. In other words, common sense and logic don't necessarily prevail with those people.

Purple Haze is right...They think this stuff if owed to them, and frankly I hope they MAKE the big 12 and get embarrassed when they hit the big show.
