I'll save everyone the suspense -
1. no coach will be signed until after the NFL season finishes
2. SMU hires an unknown (to most people) assistant coach from a big college
- and yes there is no logic to this, but I guarantee that is what will happen.

Jack Del Rio.....yeah right......that was my sad attempt at a joke. I can't wait for Mr. Random as our next head coach soon to followed by the regulars on this site making the following type of comments "But guys, he was 9-3 for 5 seasons at the university of phoenix" or "But guys, he was a defensive genius at Kansas State"....

Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.
Ted Nelson, Customer: Go on, I'm listening.
Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside. Ted Nelson, Customer: Yeah, makes a man feel good.
Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?
[chuckles until he sees that Ted is not laughing too]
Ted Nelson, Customer: [impatiently] What's your point?
Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Build a model airplane" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I have seen it a hundred times.
Ted Nelson, Customer: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?
Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of [deleted]. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

Thanks for sharing, Gambino. I'll admit I was getting stressed over the whole situation but knowing how it will all end allows me to relax and return to a semblance of normal life. I have no doubt your sharp intellect and keen insight has made you a wealthy and powerful man.
Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.

And why is it that SMU is the ONLY school that cannot hire a coach who is on his way to a bowl game? It makes zero sense because it happens more than you think.
Quick example: Mack Brown left North Carolina before their bowl game to go to UT. And UNC proceeded to lose, in case you were wondering.

Good point Hoss. Rodriguez bolts for Michigan, for example.

this is a line of crap. Once a coach makes a decision to move on, it is always best for ALL involved to make it public and get on with it. They don't pay the winning team more for winning a typical bowl game. It just doesnt matter that much. If some coach is doing this, just think of the bad spot he is going to put his current school in unnecessarily. That school could be seeking a new coach right now themselves. I swear some of you will buy any line of crap somebody feeds you. A bowl game is getting in the way of our coaching announcement? Extremely, extremely unlikely because it makes no sense.

Agreed. Even if a coach is going to coach their team in the bowl game, they would still announce they were moving on so that they could recruit for their new team and their old team could get started with their coaching search.
