No Eaststang we don't know anything, you're right. And it's the dumbest move in the history of coaching searches to keep such a tight lid on this. Every time we see another coach picked off, we are led to speculate that SMU's search is going badly because of the veil of secrecy. And I am starting to believe that we are not getting a sniff from anybody we are even remotely interested in, beyond Paul Johnson, who left us hanging. This is downright depressing.
Ask yourself this--if Coker was of true interest from the beginning, instead of, say, fifth or so on the wish list, why are we in the eighth week of this search?

FWIW, I would be extremely happy with any of these guys. Our last 2 HC's have been a DC and a DII HC. now some of the folks on this site are complaining about a national HC of the year, winner of a NC? Just who do we think we are? Orsini's marketing plan of being in the top 25 in everything is working, and it seems people are buying it. we've been a bottom feeder unfortunately for too long, and now we think we're too good for any of these guys that are rumored to be interested?
At least Stallions not buying it, he wants to continue with our run of unproven, mediocrity and hire Todd Dodge.
Excellent points. Maybe we are just waiting for Spurrier to announce his interest in the job. Wait, he is too old and has only won one national championship.

The sole export of Chuck Norris is pain

Perhaps he was being played by Michigan or LSU. The timing of his name surfacing after the Michigan hire occurred is interesting. Maybe he was about to go with us, and then Michigan began their search and Coker was told that they might be interested in him or that if Myles left, LSU might be interested in him. After all, he beat Tressel, but for a bad call in OT. He might have put us on hold until that scenario played out, and we commenced to talk with other possible candidates who were high on our list, like Johnson. When Michigan went to Rich R, Coker was back in play. So the answer is we don't know and that is frustrating. But if it had been leaked several weeks ago that he was our guy, then it might have blown the whole deal, and he would have had to say a final, No, instead of a let me see what happens with Michigan.

I think you would be better served to simply have no expectations regarding any kind of standards, timeline, publicity, or even speculation of candidates as applied to this coaching search, and be pleasantly surprised when and if SMU does in fact hire a head football coach.
I have as many facts to base my assumption as JT has to base his assumption that we were passed over by choices 1-10. The fact is that we don't know any scenario. Coker might have been 4th or 5th on Michigan's list and he might have wanted the job. Let's see do I want Michigan or SMU? Hmm. And I agree this AD is less than forthcoming about anything. I'd like to know more, but I don't know all the facts or all the reasons, and I respect that it is his decision about how close to keep the cards to his chest. Now if he starts dropping cards on the floor and starts picking up better ones, I'd get my derringer ready.

That is true. However, there are two undisputable facts that make my speculation at the very least more plausible. First, Larry Coker was available immediately after Bennett was fired. Second, WE STILL DON'T HAVE A COACH!!
