The Coker Test

Postby Insane_Pony_Posse » Tue Dec 18, 2007 11:16 am

Throughout the SMU coaching search...just for fun
I have conducted my own "whatta ya think about this guy for
new SMU head coach test?
" at the office and with friends that
are casual average joe football fans.

Sometimes when I throw out a name it is "who"?
Sometimes it is positive like when I said "Gary Barnett".
Sometimes it is negative like when I said "Chan Gailey".

This morning I went around and asked about ten guys at the office
"hey have ya heard....Smu is interviewing Larry Coker".

Every single response about Coker was positive.

They all knew who he was. Some said "boy that would be a
big upgrade for SMU", another said "how could SMU get him?"

I guess I am "warming" to Coker, although I still prefer others better.

Is that kind of like the roundabout AIDS test??

I don't get the regular AIDS test anymore. I get the roundabout AIDS test. I ask my friend Brian, "Do you know anybody who has AIDS?". He says, "No". I say, "Cool, cuz you know me." - Mitch Hedberg

Coker kind of reminds me of Mike Price, but with a much better looking resume. And he seems to fit the Orsini profile of a seasoned coach looking for redemption.

I'm not sure he is a "wow" hire, but he could certainly wow a few recruits with who he has coached and what he has accomplished.

Call me neutral on Coker. I'm just happy to hear we actually are interviewing someone. I was getting concerned.

And Coker didn't have a hooker run up a $3,000 room service tab on a state credit card.

I'm all about fan groups like "Cameron Crazies", etc.

With PB as coach, I was hoping the "Moustache Maniacs" craze would have caught on where the whole student section wore giant fake moustaches.

With Paul Johnson, I was hoping we'd all wear Big Johnson T-shirts.

Now with Larry Coker... I don't know? The "Coke" Heads? Everyone dresses up like geezers?

I still think we need to establish a "Purple Hippo Brigade".
