Just the added benefit that the Froggies and Aggies would hate us even more makes FRAN a great hire in my opinion. Think how great life would be to have a coach that 2 in state rivals absolutely despise. Throw in the fact that he can actually coach and we just might have a winner.

Broke their hearts so much that Fatterson has continued to succeed with the team? I'd understand your statement more if Froggie High had tanked when Fran left. Unfortunately, they haven't totally fallen apart.

Right, looking at SMU and saying to themselves, "I think I will wait to see what comes available next year. I really like these speaking engagements and motivational seminars anyway."

That's what I am trying to tell you. There isn't much sentiment among the TCU folks that would think it anything but funny or sad that we ended up with Fran.

If we hire Fran now, I think I will be sicker than if we hired any other coach we could have had 3 or 4 weeks ago. Not simply because it is Fran, but we would have lost out on the biggest upside to hiring him: his connections with recruits. At that point, I think Orsini gets put in the category of Copeland.

Fran got luckier than Brad Pitt in a womens' prison at TCU-- his defensive coordinator came with him to Fort Worth, and he inherited a fullback named LaDainian Tomlinson and moved him to tailback.

When that tailback graduated, Fran fled. And wrecked Alabama in record time. He made it out just before the pitchforks, and proceeded to do absolutely nothing at College Station.

Except cheat.

Haven't y'all have been burned by cheating enough to know better than to do it again?

Great Point! More importantly we could have got some JUCO's in here.

Agreed-no Fran please-the guy is one of the least imaginative coaches in the country. And he did nothing at A&M-please SteveO you can do better!

Fran was 17-8 at Alabama. More made up "facts" from the frogs.

TCU fans. Here's the deal-while Fran was at TCU he recruited better than any non-BCS team in the country. Period. And I'm not just talking out my [deleted] on recruiting like many. He left the cupboard full. Sour Grapes. Fran brought both of the greatest Coaches in modern TCU History. As for Aggie decommits-we weren't going to get any of them anyway but I'll concede it would have been better 4 weeks ago.

This seems like an interesting dilemma. Just one day ago the worst thing Orsini could do was hire Coker, now it is Fran. At this point we need a proven coach period. I think they both have the pros and definitely cons.

Let's just S$%t or get off the pot

Because he doesn't care anything about his programs or his athletes. He only cares about himself and big $$$. If you don't believe TCU, just ask the folks at Alabama or even College Station.

I would much prefer Coker or Barnett to Fran. Hands down.

My biggest problem w/ hiring Fran (aside from looking like bottom-feeders to TCU and A&M fans) is that we could have had him weeks ago. Same with Coker. It makes no sense, and I have to agree with the Bolg's latest entry that our search is REALLY going badly.

Here is my (uninformed) list of Orsini's first choices:

1. PJ (gone to GT)
2. Krags (stays at UL)
3. June Jones (who knows?)
4. Neuheisel (looks like UCLA)
5. Calhoun (stays at AF)

I am sure there are others that Orsini aimed for that simply denied us. And now, b/c there is nobody left, we are interviewing the guys we could have had weeks ago.

Solution: Either go ahead and hire one of these retreads and just get it over with, or Orsini needs to go begging for more $ to add to the war chest and make a run at that "mystery" candidate that will blow our socks off.

Or hire Norm Chow.
