SMU & WVU THOUGHTS

Postby ASDF » Wed Dec 19, 2007 10:30 am

First post as you can see, but I wanted to jump in with my opinion.

SMU - Not a big fan of Orsini, but he is a professional and knows what he is doing. The only coach in America (in my opinion) that might be interested, wouldn't break the budget, and can not leave his current employer is June Jones. "Wow", I will leave that for others, but I am putting my money on June Jones.

WVU - Watch out for "Doc" Holliday, florida assistant w/WVU ties, to be seriously considered. I don't know if he can coach or not, but he is rarely beaten on the recruitng trail in the southeast.

no offense dude...but why would Jones leave a top 20 team thats heading for a BCS bowl and leave that beautiful state to come to the Hilltop. No way he goes from a very nice Hawaii program to SMU.

sorry but there is zero chance.

i dont see it as a very nice program. they are currently debating what to do with the bonus $5 payout from the Sugar bowl. here are theyre options:

1. Old Dorm Renovation
2. Library
3. Classroom Renovation
4. Practice Facility
5. Stadium Upgrades
6. Equipment
7. Overall Facilities Improvements

i tried to find the article, but apparently JJ is not too happy with the facilities and people down there. he wants that money for football since that is what got them the money

yeah, hard to believe after a BCS bowl game he announces he's coming to SMU. I'd love the hire, but not bloody likely.

I don't know why June Jones would want to leave. My thought, no source, is that we could have hired all the coaches out of coaching by now, we could have hired any OC/DC, we could have hired any NFL Asst. The leaves current college head coaches and NFL head coaches. I don't see any NFL coaches coming to SMU. To me if leaves June Jones or a complete disaster.

But Hawaii only pays him $800k and this is the last season on his contract. Further, he may feel that he has accomplished all he can at Hawaii, and that his value in the marketplace is at its peak. UCLA has shown some interest, but it's not like he has any bCS offers. If another school wants to pay him a lot of money to turn a program around, why shouldn't he consider such an offer? I could also see why he would want to coach Hawaii's bowl came and possibly wind up with a perfect season. In addition, he may actually feel he has an obligation to his players to coach that game. I would feel differently about the situation if Hawaii had extended his contract. A contract extension should have happened years ago; apparently, Hawaii couldn't/can't get it done.

Just a couple of personal interactions. But nothing that matters. He is OK and has a track record of success in his career. That is the main reason I think it is June Jones. There has to be a reason we are waiting.
