Looks like it's down to Neuheisel, Coker, Fran or Chow. Word from footballrumormilll is that UCLA is looking at Kragthorpe (he must not be happy at Louisville). If Neuheisel goes to UCLA then it's down to Coker and Fran IMHO with Fran as the winner. Chow is great but I think they want a HC. I could be wrong.

Survivor didn't last this long. This feels like a reality show. With the writers strike CBS should have been here (assuming Orsini would talk to them).

Chow is the one NFL OC I think we should take a chance on. Sure no head coaching experience, but Norm Chow is such a great offensive coach and recruiter. I think he would do very well here. The problem would be he probably would not stay long unless he gets a HUGE amount of money, but hey go for it !!!

just wondering-what evidence do you have that Chow is such a good recruiter? He certainly has no Texas recruiting experience. Maybe one of the West Coast guys knows.

Of all of those names, Fran is the best proven Texas recruiter. Neiheisel would also recruit well no doubt. Either one would be fine and an upgrade.

Coach Fran would be the first Head Coach at SMU known for quality recruiting since the DP. Best non-BCS recruiting classes in the country while at TCU. Quality recruiting classes at A&M just not as good as OU or UT-two of the best in the Country with Stoops and Brown staffs.

At USC he wasn't a big recruiter. His forte is his ability to mold QB's into extremely smart, prolific passers. He did it with Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Ty Detmer, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and even now Vince Young.
I don't think he has the chops to take over the SMU program due to inexperience and his Karl Dorrell-esque personality. Apparently he doesn't interview well either because he's been on several short lists and never landed a head coaching gig.
GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!

Just how well do you think Fran is going to be able to recruit at SMU post-Aggy meltdown/coachfran.com debacle?
Back off Warchild seriously.

Sadly, probably as good or better than Phil Bennett.

He is great at recruiting QBs due to his resume and that is about it. His lack of personality and charm have prevented him from getting a job in the past. It looks like Slick Rick is getting the UCLA job

I guess my top four would be (1) Barnett (although he's not getting interviewed it seems); (2) Fran - excellent recruiter and has turned programs around including Frog U; (3) Coker - National Championship coach at an urban private school with high academic standards, grew up in OK a close third, wouldn't bother me if he was #2; (4) Neuheisel. I just don't think he's the best choice for SMU.
