This process is like shopping with my wife

All we do is go round and round, looking at everything and never actually buying anything. At the end of the process, I am tired, cranky and not satisfied until we get home and I can drink.

Enough already Steve O, hire a dog gone coach (I'd use a stronger word, but I am trying to pay attention to our enforcement officer) and quit with this ridiculous "hiring the right guy takes time," stuff. God created the heavens and the earth in seven days, how much more time do you need?

I used to have that problem until my wife became a professional shopper. I, as an amateur shopper, am not allowed to participate with her anymore so I get to stay home. I still have to provide the funds for shopping but at least I can stay out of the fray. She has garnered All American honors several years running for both $ spent and shopping time accrued. And to top that off, in one year she will be eligible for the Seniors Shopping tour and should really rack up the wins even though the $ will be less. The Senior shoppers spend more time in the Dollar Stores and WalMarts than do the young professionals who concentrate more on the malls and specialty shops.

Yea, but I finaly reach a point where I can't take anymore and I just want to scream, "Buy something - anything so we can be done already!" That's how this coaching search has gone.

Thank heavens the good woman did all of the Chirstmas shopping this year, because I had all the torture I can stand reading this board.

But mrydel,when shopping becomes and Olympic sport, you'll still retain your amateur status, while Mrs. mrydel will be shopping in the Olympic Village with all the other tourists....

Exactly. She is a good shopping coach too, but probably would not be considered for SMU because she is a cutthoat bada$$ when it comes to shopping.

This coaching search has gone a long way in convincing me that we have one of the worst athletic departments in America. Only at SMU can you fire a coach with four games left in a season and still be looking for a replacement at New Year's. Truly embarassing to a degree to which I find myself incapable of expression.

So true, all day walking the mall (and not the greatness that used to be NorthPark, no. The NEW, friggin ENORMOUS NP with multi-levels, secret passages, and dead-ends) looking for that "perfect" dress to wear New Years Eve. That dress only exists in her sweet, little mind.

"Honey, can i look in the Paul Johnson store?"

"Yes, but you can only look. His stuff is too expensive and doesn't look that good on you."

"Fine"

You walk and walk until you are beat down. Then finally, defeated, you circle back towards the car and settle for something from Francione's Secret, because you can't go home empty handed.

That's just how the whole process feels sometimes. Although, I have to keep faith in SO... one day soon, I hope he excites the hilltop and proves the impatient naysayers wrong.

My wife is the same way. The only thing that is worse is when you get home after having bought absolutely nothing, she goes on and on about how "I really wish I would have bough that [insert item here]". Then when she DOES finally go back to get it, they no longer have it in her size and she goes to every one of those stores in the greater DFW area trying to freakin' find it so she complains about that. It's a much more painful process than dropping the cash in to buy it in the first place.

Sure. We have not made a poor choice for a head coach yet. AND, we still have every opportunity to make an outstanding choice for head coach. Whether or not it happens is a matter of some debate, of course.

As for the process itself, the courtship of Johnson was handled in a very professional and effective manner. We put our absolute best foot forward to try and make a hard sell, and we came up short.
