People that throw out the App. State coach haven't researched him at all.
I do not know if you mean people that mention him or people that blow him off, but I know Jerry Moore. He is a very fine gentleman and I would say he is one of the most pleasant individuals I have ever met. But I do not think he in any way would be the right fit for SMU at this stage of his life or career.
Jerry Moore is a gentleman and a fine coach, he's done an outstanding job at Applachian State, and they will probably erect a statue to him when he retires. The trouble is that retirement could come any moment now, he's 68 years old. He would turn 69 before ever coaching a game at SMU.

This isnt meant as a put-down to Moore, but he had 2 chances to coach at the D1A level, and neither went very well. That, combined with his age and the likelihood that SMU will be a long term rebuilding project make him a shaky candidate. He should stay App State, there he is the equivalent of Paterno or Bowden.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Dwan- Do you mean Bob Bratkowski? I apologize for mentioning the name of someone you haven't heard about on ESPN. Please let us know again when a hire is made.

That is my point. I don't think anyone that suggests him knows he is 68 years had two stints at IA, including NTSU. They probably also don't know they average over 20k in attendance. He has found his place and is happy there.
