Why? 60-15 with a national title, and we're too good for the guy?
Not only that, but he was the architect of the sensational Miami defense?
All college teams should have such problems.

Sure he did very well at first, as most coaches would have taking over a program like that. However, as Miami fans will tell you, when Coker was FIRED last year, Miami's program had declined so much that they are just average at best now. This year's Miami team went 5-7 having their first loosing season in almost 30 years....Sure if you look at the surface, any agent can put a positive spin on Coker's record. But look at where he took Miami over the course of HIS LEADERSHIP and Miami fans will tell you hiring him was a disaster..... I didn't say he couldn't coach, but we are looking for a Head Coach. Get past the spin and you will see to take Miami's program down like that is not someone who we should want as Head Coach to rebuild our program.

If he was the architect of Miami's defense, why was he the offensive coordinator?

The architect of that Miami defense was Butch Davis and after that, Randy Shannon, the current head coach.

He won a National Championship! Average? So far, we have not found anyone that can even take us to average. I can't beleive we are trashing guy with a national championship who has an interest in SMU.

If you can't see an obvious downtrend with Coker's record, there is no hope for you. You also don't need to ignore that Bowden's first two years he was under NCAA probation and he still went undefeated in his first year.

When the new coach is hired, this will be proven to have had a lot of flawed assumptions and been a waste of time.

Miami just fired their DC. While I'm not a huge Coker fan, I wonder if he would bring on Tim Walton as DC if he were hired here...?

If it does, and a great coach is hired, he will be glad, just like he said in the last part of the blog post.

But two facts are undisputable: We are in the 8th week of this coaching search AND we still don't have a coach.

Didn't say anyone doesn't want a great coach.
We are all on the same page -- WIN.

Coker/Davis built their Miami teams with (much more substantial) NCAA penalties also. I really haven't ignored it. As far as trends go...I see two coaches that were never able to equal the success of their first seasons, were able to manage a souring program with respectful records for three years before struggling and getting fired. Both coaches have declining records and if you are calling that 10-3 SO much different than the 9-3 that Coker coached in his 5th year then you're WAY WAY too picky. BTW, that 1-5 beginning is the only season on there that looks like an SMU season...I love Bowden (he's my #1 wish-coach) but to make him seem night and day with Coker seems ridiculous.

Make no mistake, I sincerely hope you are right. I am far more interested in SMU being successful than I am being proven right.

If you would like to PM me and explain why I am wrong, I am glad to hear it.
