With all that said, if he can recruit LT into here then sign him up! I rather see Coker.

He took a 1-10 TCU team to beat #18 Southern Cal and finish #27 in nation, without LT. Patterson and Fran also had the nations #1 defense, which LT never played a down of defense.

TCU owns YOU wrote:With Fran at SMU, I could seriously imagine a TCU/SMU matchup of two Top 25 teams. That would be an awesome atmosphere and re-ignite a storied rivalry that used to decide national championships. With a guy like Coker or Niueheisel, I just can see it happening. There is enough talent in Texas for both TCU and SMU to be Top 25 programs. In a really perfect world, this would be at the expense of KSt, OSU, A&M, Baylor, and Tek (which recently lost is academic acredation and was temporarily lowered to community college status (Serisouly).

now you're talking!!

How many of Fran's promising players would follow him to SMU?? More playing time, better education, and if they are loyal to Fran they will follow.

Tap the brakes.

1. Most of Fran's recruits at A&M are top 100 guys in the state, they aren't going to SMU. If they leave A&M they are going to Texas, OU or another Big 12/SEC type program.

2. All recruits at that level believe they are good enough to start.

3. SMU is a nice school and all, but better education? Do you really believe that? I attended both A&M and SMU (law school) and let's not get to wrapped up in SMU's academic prowess being a factor. A&M is consistently ranked higher than SMU in national rankings, both are top tier schools for sure, but even if you think SMU has better academics let's not think the difference is so great that it would make kids switch their commitment.

All that said, I think Fran would be a great hire. I was really on his side while at A&M, he just could not develop a consistent enough offense and defense to compete with the big boys week in and week out. He would be a great fit at SMU.

Rankings shmankings. Yes, you do get a better education at SMU than a ginormous 50,000+ public school.

LT was a junior in Fran's second year at TCU -- the year after the SC bowl win. Did LT go to JUCO before enrolling at TCU? And wasn't SC 6-5 that year?

WRONG
USC was 8-4 and #18 in the nation prior to 1998 Sun Bowl
LT went straight to TCU from High School

Maybe wikipedia is wrong...

During Tomlinson's freshman and sophomore years, he split time with Basil Mitchell. In the 1998 season he helped the Horned Frogs win its first bowl game in 41 years against the University of Southern California in the Sun Bowl.[7] During his junior season in 1999, he set an NCAA record for yards in one game with 406 against UTEP. He ended the year with an NCAA-leading 1,850 yards rushing to go along with 18 touchdowns.

TCU Frog

With all due respect, you are arguing both sides.

I don't make the recruiting rankings, third parties do, and they have consistently ranked A&M top 10-20 in recruiting. If you are in that area every year, you expect at least top 25 finishes, something A&M never did under Fran.

I don't have an inflated sense of A&M.
