Those might be WOW names, but I don't get the sense Bowden was ever on the list at all.
Check your senses.

Guys, quit getting your hopes up. Bowden is not on Orsini's list.

research my post. Orsini has not keep this a secret amongst the search committee and some in the athletic department. Just read his quotes he says he "looking for the best coach in America for SMU." Bowden has been out of coaching for almost 10 years. Turner has been quoted in the Daily Campus as saying no coaches with baggage. Add all this up and it means no Bowden.
This is a make it or break hire for SMU. That's why this search is taking so long. Orsini is not going to gamble SMU's future, let alone his own future on a guy who lost all passion for coaching and went into broadcasting for several years. If we fail at hiring a coach that turns SMU around in could be the end of football at SMU and he knows this. Also, what would it do to his career as an AD? This is a guy aspiring to be the AD at Notre Dame, his alma mata. He turns SMU around and he can buy a one way ticket to South Bend. Can you blame him?

Be fair EX, without using a name I have said exactly who one of my sources is.

SMU would be very lucky to get somone like Bowden.
This is possibly the worst football program in the country.
If not @ the bottom, close to it.

I know. I never give my sources away either, but if you honestly believe that Bowden has not been considered that says a lot about our program

Are you putting Terry Bowden in the same class of coach as these guys? Respectfullly your judgement may be off a little on this coaching search. When people hear the name Bowden they think wow, Bowden what a great name. But the reality is he's only a name and been out of coaching to long. Are you willing to risk SMU's future on a guy who has no staff and has probably never recruited Texas? Do you think the big money players at SMU will put up big money again if this new coach fails? Orsini knows that and thats why he said "if I worked here for 100 years this would still be the biggest hire I would ever make." That statement says it all.

What it says is that we don't want to take a risk on a quitter who has been out of the game for the past decade. Remember, he walked away from his players in the middle of the season. I don't care how much crap he was allegedly taking from Louden and other boosters (and how much of it he brought on himself), you don't walk away from these kids in the middle of the season. As much as I don't like the coaching carousel of job shifting after a season ends, it is still better than quitting on the team in the middle of the season. That is the absolute last thing the Ponies need.
I am not a fan of Turner's attitude towards baggage, but in this instance, I don't want a has-been coach who's also a quitter. Is Bowden a good coach? He may still be, but he has done absolutely nothing to show that he still has the passion, desire, and skills to recruit that he used to have. There are too many "ifs" to be answered with him, making it not worth our time.

Your right Papa as far as the worst program in the country or close. Bowden type hire would have been great the last two times we hired a coach. But this could be a last chance hire to pull this program out of a downward spiral. I'm not sure there is a next hire if this fails miserably.
