First, I honestly believe Orsini does have some kind of an agreement with an active big time college or pro HC and is waiting for that coach to finish his season. So as the bowls start winding down, with each bowl game the stakes will get bigger. Or when the pro season is over and playoffs start eliminating teams the stakes will get bigger. SMU will be that much closer to a new coach. Orsini has said we are the coaches schedule, so wait for a big name when it's announced. All these guy's that have been discussed, that are not coaching are just put out as fall backs or to keep up interest. SMU may be the last to hire, but I believe it will be a huge hire.
Another point. SMU is very much known to the people I work with. Mostly due to the pony express and the DP, they also see CJ every weekend, SMU is well known in Phx. All it will take to erase the last 20 yr.s is the first big upset, like TT. Then, with a new, well known big time coach, people will start believing very, very fast. The stadium will be full and the additions will need to be made. It won't take long with the right HC. I fully expect you will get the right HC. He is still coaching though.

Why? Why do you believe that?
Better question, why should any intelligent, rational adult believe a single word of that fairy tale?
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Depends on what part you choose not to believe. But I'll justify the post.
If I wear any apparel from SMU, I am asked things like are they ever going to be back, they really got screwed, etc. so they do know. That is a fact.
10-12 million $ and I have always thought for the right guy maybe more.
Orsini has put his job and reputation on the line and has stated we are on the coaches schedule not ours. This tells me the guy is still coaching. If he is still coaching he must be in a bowl or a pro coach.
It really does not take much time to turn things around as I have seen it with Arizona State. Last year they would be lucky to get 30,000 fans to a game, this year 75,000. New big time HC and winning. That's a fact.
Yes they do compare.
I do think they will beat Texas. But am less sure of that then the rest of the post.

I just got back from Atlantis (Nassau, Bahamas), where I got in trouble for checking PonyFans on vacation. I was truly convinced we wouldn't hit Christmas without a coach...
aaah, the life of a SMU Football fan...
Guess recruiting is almost cooked for the year - HS coaches on the board - when are most players committed?

about 90% of the Texas Top 100 have committed-about 75% of the Area Top 100 have committed. We missed the JUCO signing date.

Serious question. Isn't there a two month period or something like that after the JUCO signing date that they can still sign up? Not that there is anyone left, but I thought the "signing date" was just the earliest they could sign.

More specific on PK's question.
Fran's son is Blinn College's HC?
Are there any good players from Blinn or Blinn's circle that are withholding their commitments?
Not that it matters that much, seems like if Fran was our man he would already be HC.

Fran is one of our falllaback guys or men if the guy who ORSINI is dealing with, turns us down. The whole thing makes me think it is JUNE.

NO, and do not continue to spread such garbage. We never fight with our cousin/wives. It is the cousin/sisters we can not tolerate.

I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO BUY INTO THIS THEORY, BUT WHAT IS MORE LIKELY IS THE POSSIBILITY ORSINI HAS A GUY IN MIND WHO HAS EXPRESSED INTEREST AND IS STRINGING ORSINI ALONG TO THE END OF HIS SEASON - WHEN THAT COACH STEPS BACK AND USES THE SMU JOB AS HIS OPPORTUNITY TO GET THE BIG PAY RAISE HE WANTS FROM HIS CURRENT EMPLOYER - TO STAY WHERE HE IS. I COULD BUY THE RUMORS OF GUYS LIKE JUNE JONES, GRAHAM, O'LEARY, SHULA AND SOME OTHERS WHO HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED AS CANDIDATES WHO MIGHT FALL INTO THIS CATEGORY.
ORSINI HAS SAID VERY LITTLE PUBLICLY, BUT THE COMMENT THAT HIS (ORSINI'S) TIMELINE IS BEING AFFECTED BY THE CANDIDATE'S TIMELINE, TELLS ME THAT IS A POSSIBILITY. THE OTHER 'CANDIDATE TIMELINE' THAT MIGHT COME INTO PLAY IS IF ORSINI IS TALKING TO A GUY WHO IS ALREADY COLLECTING SEVERANCE PAY FROM SOMEONE AND THAT CANDIDATE DOESN'T WANT TO BE ON SOMEONE ELSE'S PAYROLL UNTIL 2008 (FOR CONTRACTUAL REASONS) .
