It really makes you wonder why Bower is not a finalist

OK, I'll spin this and say no coaching prospects that the reporter was told. Given the great secrecy of this search, who knows.

I'm totally ok with Bower not being a candidate @ this point.

I think there are many others I would approach before Bower.
Hopefully they have been approached.

Bower has one of the best records of building a program of any coaching candidates in the country......He should be considered by every Div. 1 school looking for a coach.

Because it's simple common sense in a way. If you're going to pass up candidate A who is qualified to a certain degree, than it means the other candidate(s) B are equally or more qualified for the position you're filling. Seems pretty obvious.

Because if that is not the case, than there will be a very upset mob at the end of the day asking very simple and correct questions like why the heck did you not even interview Candidate A and go out and hire joe-dumbo. In a way, one may take reassurance in the fact that candidates such as Bowden and Bower have been bypassed, that in all likelihood there is a more qualified candidate to be hired. And that no-interest cloud doesn't fly in this setting.

If we were whiffing like Mendoza than there would be definitive evidence after two months. We have 'interviewed' Johnson, discussed the position with Franchione, and 'interviewed' Coker. If they were now at the top of the list, they'd have the job already. You can argue whether Bowden and Bower would be better interviewees than Coker and Fran. We may be incorrect in waiting this long for someone, but we are not waiting for no one.

USM was strong before Bower got there...he did not build that program. The years before Bower took over in 1990:

Coach Hallman (1987-1989):
1989 5-6
1988 10-2
1987 6-5

Coach Carmody (1982-1986):
1986 6-5
1985 7-4
1984 4-7
1983 8-3 (7-4 but Tulane had to forfeit their win)
1982 7-4

Coach Collins (1975-1981)
1981 9 2 1
1980 9 3
1979 6 4 1
1978 7 4
1977 6 6
1976 3 8
1975 7 4

and that's just from 1975.

Yeah, but it was a fluke year...Hallman ended up getting the LSU job after that year. He did not have success in Baton Rouge, and since then has only held low-level assistant jobs.
