From the Houston Chronicle: Jerry Wizig's UH NotebookIn the complex and often indecipherable world of conference realignment, strange theories often receive public attention. One of the strangest in recent weeks is the idea that Conference USA member TCU is considering the different aspects of a move to the Mountain West Conference. One report, more rumor than fact, has the Horned Frogs heading west with Houston. UH athletic director Dave Maggard on Tuesday indicated that move is based more on fiction than truth. "We have looked at just about every possibility," Magggard said at about the same hour the Big East was announcing the annexation from C-USA of Louisville, Cincinnati and South Florida plus Marquette and DePaul. "Any serious conversation hasn't occurred," Maggard said of future TCU-UH package deal with the Mountain West. "TCU has explored it (the move), at least informally," Maggard said of what would be a second conference move in three years by the Fort Worth school. Eric Hyman, TCU's athletic director, has said as much publicly to Metroplex media. It would seem TCU has been down the Western path to the Mountain and Pacific time zones in its recent years as a Western Athletic Conference member. This time, so the theory goes, the travel and geographic problems would be solved with an Eastern Division. In a conference with only two major TV markets - Salt Lake City (with Brigham Young) and Denver (Colorado State), the theory is that TCU would bring Dallas-Fort Worth (with the Houston market added if UH should make the change). But with college football and basketball on the tube from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. the next day in those areas, that theorycould be invalid. Unless, of course, there was a nationally ranked football team (like TCU this season) and basketball team to attract viewers. "Our first goal always will be to consider any option that is in the best interests of the University of Houston," Maggard said. "Right now, our focus is on strengthening our own programs."
Re: From the Houston Chronicle: Jerry Wizig's UH NotebookThanks for that info. Rumors too easily spread in the lack of facts.
