Keep an eye on this name. Dirk Koetter. He is higher on Steve Orsini's list than many think. Personally I hope he is not the guy Steve chooses, but I hear he has been contacted more than once.

Where? It was at Goff's Hamburgers on Hillcrest last week where I spoke with a close friend who is an insider. He is worried Steve Orsini is going to hire this guy.

"Dirk Koetter is an American football coach currently serving as the offensive coordinator of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars. He is best known for his six years as the head coach of Arizona State Sun Devils. Under Koetter, the Sun Devils became known for a vertical passing attack. Koetter came under fire for his lack of focus on defense, questionable halftime adjustments, and failure to win numerous big games. He holds a 1-11 (W vs. University of Oregon 2002) record against top 10 teams, and is 2-20 against all ranked teams. He has yet to win a Pac-10 road game in the state of California (0-12)."

Sounds perfect for us...

VarsityShop: As long as your source wasn't Harvey Goff, then maybe you are on to something.

Great point.
After he got hailed as the architect of what we now know as one of the premier programs in the nation at Boise State, Peterson was viewed as a guy who almost could write his ticket at any program in the nation. Arizona State gave him a boatload of cash and it didn't work out (although his record was far from horrible in an exceedingly tough conference), but his hiring would be a cause for celebration. The man is a very good coach, and with the right staff (see: Texas recruiting), he'd be a home run hire.
