Hurry get your tickets at Ticketmaster!!!!!!!!(guess some of you actually brought the BS floated around the SIDs office). The class is what it is. A foundation of some quality freshman who should improve considerably in coming years. That's it. Its not on par with the kids Baylor, or UT or A&M or Oklahoma St have brought in during recent years. BTW what's Baylor's record this year? How did they do when they were freshman? Sophmores?
You are unbelievable. It's almost as if you are happy they aren't all succeeding just so you can say "I told you so."
You act like SMU fans are the only over-zealous fans out there. Go to a LSU board, go to an Alabama Board, go to an Eastern Carolina board. We all over-hype everything about our school.
But what you do is try and find a way to put the other posters down simply so you can try and carry yourself above everyone.
It's actually pretty sad.

The exact opposite. You are not paying attention. Once the ridiculously stupid decision to bring in 7 freshman in one year was made then all you can do is sit back, be patient, give the freshman as much quality playing time they can handle. Its not a great way to build a program but the mistake has already been made. I've said it doesn't matter if we win 5 games or 25 games-its all about getting the freshman playing time. As for the rest its not my fault you were bamboozled into thinking this was a Top 25 Class. Its not and never was which I said before the season.

By Doh, or by our Model.
I vote Model.
Much like Model will punish next FB HC who won't be aggresively adding JCs.

Never was bamboozled into thinking we had just recruited the next fab 5. What I have noticed is that you have an incessant desire to try and tell people "told you so" about everything...
You obviously haven't met 95% of the rabid fan base of any college.

and I'll continue to say I told you so until SMU gets serious about competing in Division 1A Athletics. For all the shots I take years before my predictions come true I earn it. I predicted this mess BEFORE Tubbs was fired that SMU's talent base was eroding and that it was going to be a complete rebuilding job unless SMU's altered its usual restrictions of JUCOs and Division 1A Transfers. I told you Bamba Fall was a long term project-worth taking but a project nonetheless. I told you that Doherty should have taken at least two JUCOs or Division 1A transfers to keep momentum in the program while the freshman matured. Its not rocket science why SMU has one of the most pathetic athletic programs in the country. CHANGE IT. Or realize that some fans simply aren't going to give a [deleted] when the university doesn't give a [deleted]. I know I don't. I haven't gone to a BB game since Dement was made a scapegoat. I've learned there is life w/o SMU Basketball as have 98% of SMU's alumni and fan base.

i honestly don't even see why you come on here Stallion. what do you get out of this? You don't go to games, "I told you guys this before"...yada yada. It's so tiring. We are so beneath you b/c we don't follow recruiting like you do....
7 freshman was stupid...we know this already. I've only seen maybe 4 regular posters who bought into the nonsense about this being a Top 25 class. That's about it...

In basketball unlike football scholies are year to year. In other words, if you don't cut the mustard, you could lose your scholarship. Signing seven players in one year sounds stupid, but considering that you can discard the chaff, it gives you a year or so, to see if these guys realize their potential and if not, they transfer out to someplace else. Sort of like what happened with Willingham.

Speaking of transferring it has crossed my mind on numerous occassions about Papa & Malone transferring to more attractive situations.

It happens everyday.
In Papa's case, he has a legit chance to develop into pro material.
In order to achieve that he has to be practicing/playing against top players for continued development. Also, he may want to experience big time college basketball. He may want to play in front of 10000 fans per game.

maybe Doherty is different, but coaches at SMU have never "run off" players. Not a good policy to start either. The better approach is actually make yourself accessible and attractive to Big 12 transfers and jucos. Thats how you can build a program like smu, not playing a numbers game by running off young players. The running off players approach does work alot better when you are recruiting Michigan though, no one there will notice.

I'm not in favor of covering up recruiting mistakes by running a kid off.

Running players from the previous coach happens all the time. Sometimes players and coaches don't get along - one moves on. Dez was a let down. I wish it had turned out better here, but he did not live up to expectations.
As far as Malone and Dia transferring - they came here because of Doherty. I imagine one of their motivations is to begin to build a program with him.

running off players does not just mean the previous coaches players. It is a method some use to get rid of some of their own recruits who do not live up to their expectations. Its a very dangerous game and can border on unethical.
