ESPN College Football Live SMU Update

Postby QuikSStang » Mon Dec 24, 2007 2:21 pm

Larry Coker has interviewed and is on standby. So is Fran. One head coach in a bowl game is going to have an interview in the future. Nobody knows who that one guy is yet.

Only if by bowl game, they mean trying to spell out words in his alphabits.

Just saw the broadcast on ESPN2 and reporter said a third candidate is currently coaching a team to a bowl, e.g. June Jones. Confirmed Coker and Franchione in the cue.

Neuheisel is really being talked up for UCLA by some alumni and Bowden for WVA.

Jim Donnan said that Franchione appears to be the front-runner (2nd interview yesterday) and that June Jones is the sitting head coach that will get a shot to interview.

All this is a big bingo. Even though I cannot believe June Jones would come here, that's what the buzz is. Supposedly, Jones is not getting "treated well" at Hawaii. Personally, Darth thinks that he will do to us what PJ did. But at this stage, it is "Hail Mary" time.

We waited all this time to hire Fran? Honestly if a guy can't decide whether he wants a new job until after a bowl game, that means he doesnt really want the job and is using you as a stalking horse to raise the price his current employer will pay to keep him.

Well - glad we are taking a shot at Jones even if the chance of getting him is low. While I hate Fran, I am comfortable knowing he is our fallback position.

Darth,

I think you are probably right.
Jones will get a raise out of the deal.
The positive for SO is hopefully he got to interview Jones in Hawaii @ least of couple of times.

I'm beginning to change my opinion & say lets just hire Fran & get it over with.

I don't really like any of the three mentioned. Of all of them, I would prefer Fran. Although, I suppose, hiring June Jones would make the biggest splash. I don't think Jones would come, though.

Hawaii Doesn't Have moore to Give

Postby FLORIDAGUY » Mon Dec 24, 2007 4:04 pm

Hawaii is not a rich school. It took contributions from 50 boosters to raise the 100,00 given to Jones at the end of the season. Thay have bad facilities and want to use the BCS money for the academic side. Affluent students go back to the mainland for college. I think we have a real shot.

FG, I hope you are right. I don't know much about Hawaii and their facilities.
