June Jones - former NFL head coach has his team in a BCS game.

If this is what we're waiting for, it'll be worth the wait.

What makes you think they are "options"? June Jones said NO!!!!!

Coker and Fran - who knows if the are even interested? Why has Orsini not hired them BY NOW if they are "options"? Why not hire them a month ago if they were "options"? To wait for people like Paul Johnson and June jones and Urban Meyer to spit in our faces???

GET REAL!!!! SMU IS A JOKE!!!

By the way - I told everyone the day Bennett was fired that SMU would be getting scraps from the table and that this would not shape up like you hoped. You people are delusional.

What evidence do you have that hasn't been reported? Maybe Jones will consider SMU, maybe he won't. But none of us know for sure, including me and including you. The cursory "I'm not interested" comment is standard fare and can not be construed as "evidence" one way or the other.

For his part, Petrino has said he'll be back to coach the Falcons in 2008, and owner Arthur Blank has indicated that he wants Petrino back.

Give me a break. Petrino (and Saban for that matter) had terrible situations that they left. They were willing to live with the ridicule for the tremendous upside. SMU is not Arkansas. SMU is not Alabama. We are a step down from any level unless you consider D-1 FCS or D2 or D3. June Jones just gave all you delusional idiots his answer to the speculation. I'm afraid nothing can save any of you.

One team was better than 8-4 and that was overrated Nebraska who was coming off a loss to Colorado. Yes, it was a great season, but ANYBODY can coach a team with the likes of

QB Ken Dorsey
FB Najeh Davenport
HB Clinton Portis
TE Jeremy Shockey
SE Andre Johnson
FL Kevin Beard
LT Bryant McKinnie

DT William Joseph
LE Andrew Williams
WLB D.J. Williams
MLB Jonathan Vilma
SLB Chris Campbell
RCB Mike Rumph
FS James Lewis
SS Ed Reed
LCB Phillip Buchanon

KR Andre Johnson
KR Frank Gore
PR Phillip Buchanon

I rest my case.

GOOD GOD, that team was absolutely ridiculous.

Im not saying Coker would be a great fit here, but the argument that he won with someone elses players is ingorant and the fact is he won with players a previous coach couldnt. If anything I would think that is a plus.

well, Butch went 11-1 in 2000 when he had that team. Still a great record. His only loss came to a good Washington team led by Slick Rick. He won with the same players, Coker just won one more game with a more mature and better squad

That One extra win is the difference between a coach with a National Championship and one who has no National Championship Rings. Big difference my friend.

As a head coach would you rather say you were 11-1 or that you went the distance and won the championship? Don't discount Coker's accomplishments. Also, Miami has been viewed as thug U since the 80's. They get a lot of inner city players and because a few get into legal trouble the whole team is perceived as thugs. Not Coker's fault.

There's nothing delusional here at all. Jones is making 800k at Hawaii and is apparently not happy there. SMU apparently has a lot more money to offer. The Morning News indicated he was in the mix at SMU and that SMU may have even conducted an interview with the guy. Jones denial of such a thing is understandable, but meaningless in today's world of college football coaches.

Coker, Fran and Jones are the three names we're hearing about right now. All three have been reported in the papers as possibilities for SMU.
We're not delusional, we're just talking about what has been reported.

You apparently aren't happy with what's been reported. So be it.
I suspect that the coach we get will be far better than the table scraps you think. Waiting for Jones to get done with the Sugar Bowl makes good sense for all involved. If he says no, then we've got two other proven coaches to fall back on. I have no doubt that either Coker or Fran would take the job if offereed.
