Don't put any stock in the fact JJ said he is not interested in the SMU job. Of couirse he would say that going to the BCS Sugar Bowl this week......Nick Saban said he was not interested in Alabama last year also before he took the job.
That was my thought exactly when I read that story. I found his wording a bit curious too: "I have not heard from them, I'm not gonna hear from them" Now how does he know he's not going to hear from them?
...............Because in most all coaching changes, the school is dealing with the coaches agent until the end when it is time to step forward.

Jones is not going to get a big pay boost. From what I understand, he is already the highest paid state employee in Hawaii, and I believe they are struggling to justify paying him that much more. Sure, they could use some of the BCS money, but the disagreements on how to spend that money have already bubbled up to the surface.

I doubt very seriously that Hawaii could pay him as much as SMU. So if he's down to only those 2 choices (and that's a big if), it's either stay at Hawaii for less because he has a good thing going and it's freakin' beautiful there, or come to SMU to line your pocketbook for a few years and add to your retirement assets.

Is there a state income tax in Hawaii?

If so, the difference between his current salary and what SMU is offering would be even greater than the numbers alone.

Besides, he'll have plenty of cash for Hawaiian vacations.

There is a state income tax in Hawaii, I believe around 8%. In addition, web calculators show that the cost of living is 51.5% higher in Hawaii than Dallas and that a salary in Hawaii would have to be 11% higher than a Dallas salary for the two salaries to be equal. Thus, based on numbers alone there is no way Hawaii could come close to matching a SMU $ offer.

That's all true. But Hawaii is Hawaii. And it is a tropical paradise, and his alma mater. Hopefully, the folks in Hawaii haven't figured out a creative Fran type of way to supplement his income.

Don't forget, there is always the possible option for him of an NFL HC position too.

June Jones has ZERO interest in this joke of a program. He will not be coming to SMU. Orsini has now reminded the world just what kind of a joke our athletic program really is by this marathon assclown circus of a search.

Might want to get a new picture when you start saying things like that. As a messenger I would think you'd love to state that June Jones has no interest in SMU for reasons A B and C. He will not be the next head coach here, and the backup options are A B and C.

But usually the messenger wouldn't call the search, the director, and the department a joke, as well as the program. I mean usually a messenger's vocabularly wouldn't include ass-clown and cirucs. Sounds like a little bit of personal opinion to me, which I sincerely appreciate and it has been dulely noted. Having said that, it all sounds vaugely familiar...like we might have heard it before.

So do you want to be a messanger and continue to inform us of our impending doom using broad statements and generalities that are for the most part right, or do you want to just be an unpleasant person and inform us of constantly about how pathetic everything that is SMU athletics is. But to be perfectly fair, you have been 150% right about one thing. As you like to call it, Mr. Orsini has, as you so eloquently put, "bubkiss," because until someone puts their name on that dotted line, we do indeed have no one.

Which is it?

It's always been said by the webbies that constructive criticism is welcome, even encouraged on this site. In b's message, he called the entire program a joke, calls out Steve-O for "reminding" the world, and then there's his clever description of the search. We're all frustrated, but ban this guy.

If you were our AD, we would have settled with the first guy who said he was interested.

since that was Gary Barnett, I don't think anyone we hire at this point would equate to a better hire than going the Gary Barnett route two months ago.
