Best SMU Football Memory?

Postby StallionsModelT » Fri Dec 28, 2007 2:43 pm

Yeah its a slow work day. Half the office is taking their vacation time/making arrangements for New Year's stuff and I'm between projects at the moment. Not to mention a lovely 7:30 flight out of DFW to O'Hare on January 2nd. Chicago sure is lovely this time of year isn't it?!

Anyway, I liked the way the other thread I started was going so I'll continue along the same vein. What is your favorite SMU football memory? For me it would have to be my senior year when we beat TCU at Ford. I can remember thinking we would lose that game by 40 points after the way they manhandled Oklahoma on both sides of the line of scrimmage. It was the most surreal sporting event I've ever attended. Being at SMU from 2002-2006 there were not many "signature" wins. However, that one was a really great senior gift from the football team. I even remember feeling halfway good about going down to College Station and giving the Aggies a good test. We all know how that turned out. Oh well. The win against TCU was truly sweet.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I seem to vaguely remember the good old days when we had a coach. 1980s I think.

I really enjoyed the 1982 SMU vs Tech game at Jones Stadium in Lubbock. My son was a Tech student at the time and we went to the game together. What a game, I'll never forget it. From the Tech rider running over one of our cheerleaders. To the Tech fans chanting "SMU SMU the best team money can buy". To the game winning trick kickoff return. Just great.

Oklahoma wide field goal on the final play of the 1968 AstroBluebonnet Bowl.

Tied with the 1980 UT/SMU game in Austin which was the beginning of a great era in SMU football.

Right close behind that game was a Mustang Club roadtrip to Fayetteville in around 1992. We whipped Arkansas' -ss that day and the Arkansas fans were telling me that SMU was their 2nd favorate team next to the Razorbacks.

Romo to Bowen on the final play of the game against UConn in 1989. 1st post-DP win.

Funny thing, I left that game when we were two touchdowns behind with about two minutes left on the clock. Big mistake. I have never left a game early since.

That was the last SMU game I attended until the Cougar High game this year. I wanted to preserve the memory of an SMU victory.

Am I allowed two favorite memories?

My second is: 41-16. The final score in 1992 when we beat U of H - a short 3 years after we got clobbered 95-21.

First game at the new Ford stadium beating Kansas (sweating like a UT player in a police lineup)...

Dickerson carrying people with him on a run vs. aTm at Texas Stadium. I think it was 44-14 or something like that.
