Well now we're down to 2 vacancies left in D1 football. Just saw it on ESPN while watching the UConn/Wake game.

I think Neuheisel will be successful at UCLA, probably sooner rather than later.

Hey, wait a second, I think Orsini is doing a fine job of proving that he, himself, is one big coconut.

I don't think I'm going out on a limb in predicting that West Virgina will hire a Coach in the next few days so they can present him to the country for the Fiesta Bowl. What better way to introduce your Coach than in front of a national TV audience.

It's so damn frustrating that we are so pathetic...last again. And to think we might have had Neuheisel a month or so ago. He's good enough for UCLA but not SMU. :x

Because he's a UCLA grad, Neuheisel is a better hire for them than he would have been for us.

Having said that, I'd have been thrilled if we'd have hired Neuheisel. It would have been a statement that SOMEBODY had faith in SMU's future.

To me, hiring Fran doesn't make that statement. He is just a manwhore in search of the next big payday, and we are the dumbest john on Harry Hines. Fran will have no long term association with SMU. It would end badly for SMU.

The Hilltop is just like going to coaching rehab for him and everybody knows it. Nobody stays in rehab one day longer than they have to, and this will be no different.

I am holding out hope that we'll snag June Jones, although I recognize it's probably a totally unrealistic hope. I'd feel a lot better about breaking Gerald J. Ford's bank for him. June Jones, if we could get him, would be able to make a straight-faced argument that he's in Dallas to be the redeemer of the program and that he'd stay until retirement.

Whoever we hire, he must figure out how to instill faith among beaten down alums like me. 20 years of getting your [deleted] kicked has a way of eroding your school pride. Folks like me have adopted another school to root for just for self-esteem reasons (mine is LSU, adopted back in 1986). Just by looking at all the handles on here, I am far from the only one with this defense mechanism.

The only way I'll believe we have turned the corner is if when we hire the new guy, Turner and Orsini are standing there promising alums that things have changed in terms of administration support for winning -- with a list of concrete examples. Another totally unrealistic hope, I guess.
