SMU future football schedule

Postby bubba pony » Thu Nov 06, 2003 1:34 pm

well, you can look up our future schedules via the back door.

look up wake forest, tcu, northwestern, baylor

I see Notre Dame is ducking us.

why can't SMU post it's future schedule? out of town alumni could plan a trip to see the team if they were playing in their area.

I am sure I am not the first to suggest this - but now that we have a CUSA schedule - we should schedule our OC games around other like minded southeastern and eastern teams - Boston College in 06 is great - lets get them here also - I would love to do home and away games with Virginia, Vandy, NC State, NC, Duke, Ol Miss, etc... We don't need OSU and Tech on the schedule the same year - CUSA should take some pressure off so we can schedule some fun teams - also I loved the Baylor game (except outcome) - lets make that one a replacement for TCU - much higher quality of fan.

GoStang- We still need butts in seats and none of those far away schools does anything for us. I like playing as many Big 12 schools as we can because that is where we rec`ruit. If we happen to get bettere someday, it could help us immeasureably. If not, it doesn't hurt and we sell more tiockets. ACC doesn't really do much for us.

We have to build some momentum in this program - which means we HAVE to win a game in September. We need two easys, a medium and a tough. This year we had three toughs and a easy (and blew the easy). I would rather give up the seats and get a few extra wins - which will lead to more seats later in the season instead of the problem we had at Boise game. Don't care who it is - just give us a couple of w's in September, and the media attention, excitement, recruiting and attendence will take care of themselves.

Ole Miss had a large group of fans when we played them at the Cotton Bowl a few years ago.

if we play in the Conference of Low Expectations I can GUARANTEE you we will be playing schools like Tech, OSU and any other school we can get that will bring a crowd. A schedule of Rice, Tulsa, Tulane, UH will have trouble attracting 12,000 per game. The loss of a TCU home game would make another rather substantial dent in our plans to meet minimum NCAA attendance requirements. We don't have the option to play east coast and acc games.

I agree. For those who complained that Boise & San Jose hurt our attendance, don't get your hopes up that UCF or ECU will improve that situation. Even adding Houston might not be a bif improvement over UTEP, who actually turned out a pretty good crowd to support a poorly performing team.

SMU needs to build (or should I say recapture) it's own fan base just as TCU has. The froggies drew 33k last night, which of course would have been a sellout in Ford. Don't you know TCU wishes they had a facility like Ford? It has to be killing them to be fielding such a high ranked team and they still can't sellout ACS. That fact, moreso than wins/losses, is what keeps them out of the BCS.

cp & stallion - dont u think that if we win the fans will come? of course they will & history has proved that regardless of the east coast teams. besides, didn't the administration say that the big 12 teams will always be in our future 'as long as they're willing to play us'? once we get better i'm sure it'll be tougher but until then - the crowds will be there for the little 12 teams.

boston college - alright! i can get into that!

if we can't get notre dame, bc is the next best thing as far as i'm concerned, especially if we can get a good year-n-&-out rivalry going with those guys: methodist vs. the catholics!
dallas vs. boston! northeast vs. southwest! whatever!

boston is a great city to visit & they're part of that east coast establishment & media corp that we need to get coverage from!!!!

& yep - the acc!

BRING IT ON BABY!!!!!!!

great scheduling jimbo!!!!!!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

The people of Boston (especially Catholics) would justifiably want to avoid any rivalry or even association with the city of Dallas. Ask Ted Kennedy.

That's why I think Bennett pops off his BIG mouth
without thinkin. We can't lose the tcu RIVALRY. He just seems to do things impulsively, and is a big disappointment so far.

After we played TX Tech close, and beat LaTech last year I thought we were on our way.
May the forth be with us.

If we do find a new rivalry, let's get one with fans that don't think their s hit don't stink. Seriously, someone who's a good winner and loser, not that TCU mentality.
Which, we can't really POINT at a school and go "You are now our rivals!" That stuff develops over time. I think if we do want to drop TCUseless from our schedule, let's just play some football and see what develops. It'll probably take more than a decade, but it'll be worth it.
