Why Not Schellas Hyndman for Head Football Coach

Postby ready4abowl » Sat Dec 29, 2007 8:43 pm

I don't understand why SMU has such great coaches and success in non-revenue sports, but can't get anything going in football or hoops. Come on Orsini! Get us something GREAT.l

Whoa there. He got us Doherty for Hoops. This will turn out to be one of the greatest hires at SMU. Doh is currently coaching 2 seniors, 1 junior and 6 freshmen. The team gets better with every game played. Their performance this afternoon was much better than just a week ago against UCUpstate. I can't wait to see Walker, Harp and Dia in 2 years.
Just send 'da money.

Yeah, lets not forget that there is a significant number of major schools that don't even play soccer.... the bar isn't that high in men's soccer

The bar is very high. Even though some of the BCS conferences do not have men's soccer, the many conferences and teams that do fiercely compete for the top players. Both the game and recruiting competition is extremely tough, thus making Schellas' winning record and his ability to continually sign many of the best of the available players even more exceptional.

Let me remind you all that without "soccer" there would have been no ball for a certain young man at Rugby Grammar School to pick up and thereby create the game of Rugby, which in turn would have resulted in no American Football.

On another note, Schellas is very well respected in the game, even among international coaches. He attended the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea and shmoosed with the national coaches. He is a tribute to SMU that he turns out so many good players.

I suggested this about 6 weeks ago, but you got more responses than I did. Heck, even I'm responding.
