Who do you want to be the next head coach between these two?

Is it a sign of the times that our men might be calling a "Fran" or a "June" coach?

Fran is a better choice than Jones in Dallas Texas. No doubt about it. But all of you want to believe in your charming little "Ole Ball Coach will Coach 'em Up Theory" go ahead and enjoy the delusion. Make sure when we get Jones SMU can also sign those recruits with criminal records, 35 transfers and 78 Polynesians too. Again, what qualities does SMU need to turn around the SMU program. Fran>June Jones for the SMU job. Have some of you really thought through this June Jones worship? Great Coach but his game won't play at SMU like it does at Hawaii.

Shouldn't you be having this discussion with Orsini? Lest you forget, we ain't the ones doing the hiring? I'm sure he would welcome your input...just give him a call.
BTW, I'm not arguing with you, I just think that your staement is about as helpful as these assine poles we have on this board. We are not in control...and I'm sure there is a good reason for that...maybe.

I thought we all agreed in the beginning that the ideal coach was a name coach with a proven record in a situation as SMU-like as possible? That definantly is describes Fran more than Jones.
Unless Orsini has gotten more changed at SMU than we think, June Jones is an unknown - unproven at a situation like SMU.
I'm with Stallion on this one.

If JJ accepts SMU is going to hire him. They want a splash. Euless has a lot of Islanders. It's a thought. We could use their war dance too.
They won't hire Fran. I think it's JJ>>Coker>>Fran with Fran having no shot.

Well, Jones did step into a program that went winless the prior year. I would say that relates very nicely to us.

Stallion, don't let the long wait break you down. When this search started Fran was not in consideration by many of the pony nation. Orsini is good at what he does. He is breaking the pony nation down to accept the lowest possible candidate we can bring in here, because nobody wants the job. Fran is a puddle jumper and everyone knows it. He will leave us high an dry in 2 years or less. Wait, GT won't sign off on the hire.

What he has done there is amazing, but I'm refering to the recruiting aspect.

Have to agree with above.
And BTW any coach that SMU gets will leave the second the program is turned around. Sorry folks, that's the way the game is played. So would you rather have a coach get hired away after 3 years because SMU went 7-5 and got to a bowl or have one get fired after 6 years because he never broke .500?

a good point with regard to a small sliver of the availiable recruits, however what natural affinity do the Polynesians at Euless Trinity have to the SMU program. ZERO. The Polynesians have a major affinity to the Hawaii program because it is their school, their culture, their tradition. I'm not discounting to Jones' contacts won't lead to a couple of commitments but it shouldn't be counted on. As for the vast majority of players SMU needs, I'll just point out that SMU does not have a commitment from a single player the Area Top 100 that has an offer from another Division 1A program. These are the players who need to be cultivated to play for the Home Town team and Fran has always recruited outstandingly in DFW.
