Right and Baltimore will not pick up a coach with a losing NFL record to replace one that took them to the Super Bowl. Nor will Miami. Atlanta is a possibility just because they're desperate right now. But if you're Jones why would you want to go to Baltimore or Miami or Atlanta where you have no decent QB, no wide receivers and you run a run and shoot offense. The NFL jobs that would intrigue him would be San Diego or New York Giants.

It's been stated that UH doesn't pay his staff much and JJ obviously cares about them as evidenced by his passing on the $100K bonus he received from boosters.

We could pay his staff more than UH and when factored with a reduced cost of living and no state taxes, JJ could not only take care of himself but also take good care of his people. True, they wouldn't be sipping mai-tais on Waikiki Beach, but they could have a beer at the White Rock Yacht Club at equivalent double to triple the salary.

I agree with this possibility, however, I find it hard to believe that Jones could have discussed this with his staff who would in turn have discussed it with their families, and nothing more being leaked than there has been. And he does not appear to be the type that would just assume that his staff would follow him anywhere he may go, no questions asked.

Highly doubt he'd ever go back to the Falcons, even without the trainwreck soap opera they've become. By all accounts he would have walked to L.A. and then swum to Hawaii to get out of there.

From the LA Daily News’ Brian Dohn (emphasis mine):

One thing I was told about Hawaii coach June Jones was he would want to bring his whole staff to UCLA, and the Bruins brass are doing everything they can to keep defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker on board. I was told that was a point of contention, and could keep Jones out of the mix.

Plus, that money goes a hell of a lot farther in Dallas than it does in Hawaii. Maybe the greatness of Hawaii has worn off, the money is a bigger lure than you think, the salary is beginning to be insulting, the facilities are beating him down, etc. If you think he's not at least thinking about it, you're nuts.

Bingo! The "sky is falling crowd" will look silly, when SO announces his coach. Perhaps JJ will be the guy. Regardless, the "I'm not worthy" mentally means no change, if we settle for less.

I believe Steve Orsini understands the importance of this choice, especially at this time in our history/hysteria. That is why he prospectively got his war chest first. Getting just a good coach doesn't meet his own stated requirements/objectives.

I look forward to a big announcement by this weekend. The alternative is unacceptable to either SO or us.

SMU looks very appealing to any quality coach, who has confidence in his own abilities to make something happen. Bringing a top notch coaching staff is part and parcel of that, e.g. the war chest.
