Fran>June Jones for the SMU job. Have some of you really thought through this June Jones worship? Great Coach but his game won't play at SMU like it does at Hawaii.
Shouldn't you be having this discussion with Orsini? Lest you forget, we ain't the ones doing the hiring? I'm sure he would welcome your input...just give him a call.
Or tell him at the next Mustang Club meeting you attend - or at least when you mail in your contribution.
Come on, PK, why talk to someone who makes decisions when it's so much easier to put down anyone who disagrees with you instead? Everyone has an opinion on this thing. Stallion's is different from yours, yours is different from Corso's, Corso's is different from Nacho's, whose opinion is different from mine, etc. Stallion didn't mean to say anything inaccurate. He just left a couple of words out. To wit:
"Fran is a better choice than Jones in Dallas Texas in my opinion. No doubt about it in my opinion. But all of you want to believe in your charming little "Ole Ball Coach will Coach 'em Up Theory" go ahead and enjoy the delusion. Make sure when we get Jones SMU can also sign those recruits with criminal records, 35 transfers and 78 Polynesians too because, in my opinion, nobody can win without criminals, transfers and above all, Polynesians - his success has nothing to do with his ability to utilize players available to him in his current situation and with his current recruiting budget. Again, what qualities does SMU need to turn around the SMU program. Fran>June Jones for the SMU job in my opinion. Have some of you really thought through this June Jones worship? Great Coach but his game won't play at SMU like it does at Hawaii in my opinion.
See how much clearer that is?

Have you ever taken a persuasive writing class? That's what I do for a living -write persuasive arguments-its worked before the Texas Supreme Court, 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and US Supreme Court-so I think I'll retain my style. Unlike most opinions on this board I try the best I can to back up my opinions with a factual basis in order to PERSUADE. More SMU fans should try that. Plus my argument was strictly to point-and not discounting other opinions. Read it again..

I know what you do for a living, counselor, and what I wrote was said (partially) tongue-in-cheek. However, when you say things like "A is better than B" - that's opinion. If you said Jones is taller than Fran, that's a fact.
Jones is 75-40 as a college coach (65.2 percent). Fran is 187-101-2 (64.5 percent). Jones is 12-0 - something Fran never has done (or will do, but to be fair, that's JUST MY OPINION/PREDICTION). Does he get bonus points for that? To some, yes. To others, no.
Fran coached in the Big 12 and had moderate success, and coached in the SEC and had moderate success. Jones coached in a lesser conference (unless you include Fran's days at FrogU and UNM), but has achieved his success with far smaller budgets and far greater restrictions (i.e. travel, exposure because of midnight games for mainland viewers, etc.)
All I'm saying is the argument can be made for either. You might be right - maybe Fran is the second coming of Vince Lombardi and Woody Hayes and Tom Landry and Chuck Knoll and Barry Switzer all rolled into one - but to categorically state that one is superior to the other is inaccurate. It's a matter of debate and a matter of opinion. You're welcome to yours, as is everyone else. Yours might even be right.
Keep your style, if it makes you feel good, and hey, it can be entertaining to read. Like I said, my response was a little tongue-in-cheek, because you sometimes do offer evidence .... but there also are plenty of times when you don't. More than anything, it makes me a little nervous about our court system if your presentation is hailed as some sort of unquestionable gospel.

that's why the other side gets to file responsive briefs. Not my job to make my opponent's arguments. I'm satisfied I deal with the issues in the most factual manner of any one on this board-for an informal message board.

By the way, that's the new ego alert. It will pop up when warranted and will not be preceded by a tone or an announcement.

Ok-Fran would be a good hire even with the inane thing he did this year-but JJ taking predominently island kids and winning is flat out amazing. What would or could he do here in the states with more options-who knows. Do we roll the dice on that or play it safe? And lastly would Fran finally bring his offense out of the stone ages if he came here?

My question is, if Jones can do what he did in Hawaii, when any of his criminals transfer to SMU, will they sit out their year on campus or in a cell? And if in a cell, will Viloria have visitation rights in order to train them?

Can't argue with that...not that I would want to.
Keep up the good work.

Considering we were thinking about hiring a triple option coach I'd say Fran is pretty modern!

why is taking Polynesians and winning so improbable-I saw a list the other day that had Hawaii in the Top 5-7 states in the country in producing NFL Players per capita(Louisiana and Mississippi were No. 1 and No. 2. From memory I don't believe that included Samoans and Tongans which also have a very high percentage of players per capta in the NFL. These are outstanding talented players not just sleepers. No dount Rivals and other recruiting services miss on them but the NFL numbers speak for themselves.

Note the quote that a Samoan boy is FORTY TIMES more likely to make it to the NFL than your Average White Band-I mean boy. He has built his program by mining an area that had largely been abandoned by his predecessor who had 17 Polynesians. This years roster has 78.
