Major Scoop On Coaching Financial Backing and Other Tidbits

Postby Stallion » Mon Dec 31, 2007 8:12 pm

...or at least I think so. Speculation on Mustangmaniacs.com -that some of the financial support for the Coaching Search is no longer there. In honor of this new scoop I'll just direct you to their message board. Have we tooted the horn of the wrong candidate so that now boosters aren't happy with alternatives? Fran AND Jones are better candidates than Krapthorpe and Johnson for the SMU job(in my opinion).

How is that since I think most all of the guys who The Coaching Search has centered on were not as good as about 7-8 candidates who haven't been? I would have offered Fran within 48 hours after he beat UT.

The main boosters needed to finance any deal are on board -- nothing has changed for them -- they have been informed all along.

As we have come to expect from you, you have very bad information. It is all still there, and likely more if we get the WOW hire.

This reads like a definite kinda sorta statement if I ever read one. No substance. Nothing solid to back it up. The keeper of the star must be one of the five people who actually get on that wasteland website.

But then again, he trolls every web site including ones where he hunts for transcripts of press conferences. Whoa!

The question is would he had posted it if whatever he found said we had UPPED the money raised. Doubtful.

Made a call. File this under "(un)informed conjecture from a well-placed source."

There is enough $$$ to still get June Jones or whoever current target is. There is enough $$$ to pay market value to backup plan A, B or C (there always was; that was never an issue). However, backup plan A, B, and C should have no illusions about getting a contract equal to what SMU would pay a June Jones.

One could make the argument is that this allows Orsini to say he won't overpay for the sake of overpaying.

Two part question: 1) Would Fran command a salary similar to Jones? 2) If the answer to 1) is yes, is Fran not the backup like many assume he is?
