What a Conference...

Postby StangEsq » Thu Nov 06, 2003 9:46 pm

TCU, St. Louis and Charlotte leaving... can't wait for those regional rivalries! Think of how many people will fill Moody and Ford to see Rice, Tulsa, maybe Louisiana Tech, and whoever else we invite -- how about North Texas State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, UTA... Highland Park High School? This is just like the game we used to play as kids where everyone would run away from the unpopular kid. Hey, it's us... SMU! Wait up!

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

We already knew St. Louis and Charlotte were leaving. TCU maybe.

We could go back to being in the WAC if you think its better. TBell what is the perfect/realistic plan to you? Post it on espn.com.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

SMU is now in a better conference than it was at the start of this week.

CUSA is better for SMU than the WAC.

Conferences make changes infrequently and SMU took a step forward this week.

Crimson, lets cut it out with the "too much time on your hands" bs. The truth is, we all have too much time on our hands or this site wouldn't exist- cut that crap out. Damone, was that some sort of cheap shot? Horrible, I've got goosebumps from that one it was so bad. StangEsq made a valid point and I backed him up on it...lil edgy today aren't we guys? Loosen up.

Don't we already have 15 threads on this topic !

We don't need to stop the negativity, we need to stop posters from rehashing things in multiple threads.

are you so special StangEqu that you MUST get your VERY OWN "SPECIAL" THREAD for you post about CUSA

Marshall, Memphis, USM. Decent programs. UH on the upswing, I think. ECU/Rice/SMU/Tulsa/UCF long way to go. As far as the level of competition is concerned the WAC is probably a better conference (if you don't include SMU/TCU/Tulsa), but no one was interested in seeing Boise State (10,000), Fresno State (14,000), both have good football teams probably as good or better than any current MWC or CUSA team. I think Boise would probably kick TCU up and down the field (just my opinion). For us this is a better conference. If Army and Navy join as partial members, that's even better. One of the service academies every other year translates into a good crowd. This was a mostly economic decision. The athletic program was bleeding badly in the WAC. We have other sports which also benefit from this move cost wise. I don't think Rice, Tulsa, Tulane or UH will draw any worse than Boise State or Fresno State and probably better.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

this is much better then the WAC for SMU - not even close. Tulane, Houston and TCU (once they stop their little extortion play) will attract much bigger crowds. Considering our on field performance this is the best we could hope for - we can go from here to get better on the field. TCU, if they stick, opens up another out of conference for us. If you ain't happy about this as a positive step you are either:

1. Not thinking
2. Impossible to make happy.

I'm happy about C-USA. I'm even happier that TCU doesn't like us in it. They are cutting off their nose to spite their face by going to the MWC. Good riddance.

I was reacting to relatively new news that the move for those two teams is all but set (see ESPN article) and to the growing certainty that TCU will walk as well. Memphis is likely soon to follow.

As for those who don't like to hear the negative, do you only want sugar-coated opinions? What's the point in that? Half the reason we have a board like this is so that we can discuss important topics like this intelligently (and sometimes emotionally). If you only present one side of an issue, you're not discussing it intelligently.

I'm a huge fan of local sports and SMU and follow the teams as much as 99.9% of you do. I went to school there for 7 years. I've sat through the 4th and goal losses at UCLA and the hail mary losses to ATM. I've seen quarterbacks and point guards injured on the first play of the season. I also remember what it was like in the 80s and I've seen what it's like now at the other four Texas schools with winning programs. So don't [deleted] at me when i vent my frustration.

...and to answer your question, yes, I am special.
