Why introduce opinions into it at all? Have a playoff with just conference champions, and one spot for the highest rated independent? Everyone else can play in a non-playoff bowl game.
If you allow only conference champions, we'll see conferences start realigning as top teams move down to weaker conferences to get into the playoffs easier. Everyone wins.

coaches/ADs/schools/presidents wont be down for that. remember, we need a system where there wont be a possibility of taking away money from people.
either have a bowl system plus 1 or have a playoff and thats it...

because there is too much money involved to get that structure implemented? And if there are at-large spots, schools would schedule highly ranked opponents for n-c games, which equals MO MONEY

I don't see how it will take money away from anyone. If you have two top 10 teams who are both #2 in their conference coming together for a bowl game, you can make just as much money of TV et. al. as you do now. Keeping the playoff small, yet fair to all (conference champs only) will keep the bowl system strong by keeping strong teams in the bowls.

it will be too confusing to describe what i want to say so ill say this, the playoff structure all depends on Notre Dame. get them in a conference and there will be a playoff system.

When I considered ND, I decided we should go to a playoff and tell them finish in the top 4-5 of the non conf-champs or join a conference. Up to them.

wish that would work but it wont...we both know that. get them in a conference, make each conference 12-14 teams deep, play 8 conference games with 1 conference championship game, then have an 8 team playoff system with bowl games from the next best 56 teams

all i want are some good matchups on New Year's Day. we ended up with two blowouts and overmatched games, this year because of crappy selection committees.
it happens, its hit or miss...i remember the worst BCS game i ever saw was the Utah blowout, atleast these games were worth watching

I completely agree that they need playoff system.
The only team that got really screwed was Missouri. Other than that…the bowl selection committee did fine. Based on a chaos that happened during the regular season, how could anyone predict the games would be blowouts? I certainly think that the committee thought the games would be competitive. Besides we have three games left…all could be as good as the “Citrus Bowlâ€
