What is Fran thinking right now?

Post by East Coast Mustang »

How awkward would a press conference be if he is in fact introduced as our next HC?

Orsini: Well, we couldn't land Paul Johnson or June Jones with a $1.7 million offer, so we're rewarding Dennis Franchione with a fraction of that as he was our third choice (and parachute option) all along. Go Mustangs!

If we signed Fran to a $1.00 contract he would be making more than $1,700,000 in 2008.

Money aside, does he have any pride? I mean he's been available for over a month, he's supposedly been interviewed, and yet we're waiting on JJ to make up his mind while Fran sits and waits.

Pride? We are the only ones who want him. He was out at Thanksgiving and was not given a real look by any other school.

My gut tells me (not Brent's, well maybe his too) that Fran would make an immediate splash at Smoo. Not that Jones wouldn't....just a gut reaction. Also, now that Fran knows that he's leftovers, the really really good leftovers though...or as some put it "the fat girl with the rich parents/dad that owns a liquor store", would he still come here in an instant if Jones said no? It would hurt my pride to know I wasn't the first choice, not that I still wouldn't come. However, I would definitely think twice before accepting the job. Whaddyathink? awkward.

Yep, it would be awkward, for Fran, Coker or any second tier choice. They know this business, they all have their resumes that are public. Fran. really made his own bed so to speak. He has no one to blame for his situation other than himself. If it turns out to be him, he might need to prove something and that would be good.

I think Fran's situation makes him the perfect 2nd choice in Orsini's eyes. I just think the guy is the best fit b/c of the recruiting and quick "boots on ground". I don't give a hoot if he is a hired gun.

Actually, if you believe the rumors, he'd be at most the third choice.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we did have the luxury of having two or three excellent candidates waiting for JJ to turn this job down? Doesn't the idea of a Fran or Coker waiting for the results of the JJ courting kind of defuse the argument that nobody wants this job?

Coker does nothing for me. Fran's okay, but damaged goods. I'd prefer we talk to Bowden or Barnett before Fran. At least they've had the passage of time to mitigate their wrongs.
