I have never been a Fran fan, but somehow I think he would be better than Jones right now.

A big upgrade from our previous HC IMO.

I agree.

You should also know that for 25 years or so, what I hope for with regard to SMU athletics is usually not what comes to pass.

Fran by all accounts wants the job.
JJ has to give it a few days to decide if he wants the job.

It's a no-brainer. Hire the guy who wants the job and has wanted it since it came open. And don't hire Martz.

Considering the limited amount of time left to recruit, assuming JJ signed today and flew to Dallas to begin work, how much better would Fran's recruiting class be than JJ's? Would the recent media exposure surrounding JJ give him a chance to put together a class anything close to decent?

Agreed.

I'm ok with Jones. But....

My wish: Jones turns us down this morning and we hire Fran this afternoon and he's recruiting tomorrow. Much fewer question marks with Fran. (recruited Texas, successful every where he's been-even A&M-not like they started having losing seasons)

Hell, just offer it to Fran and be done with it.

On the basis of Fran being here, I would say he could bring in a "better class" of recruits than JJ. I am sure Fran and his staff had a "B" list of recruits in case they lost some of their committed "A" list recruits. He and his staff could probably entice some of them to come here. Jones on the other hand would be starting from basically scratch...............

I think this years class would be about the same.
It probably would be perceived that Fran's class would be better because of history locally & statewide.

Lets face it, its going to be extremely difficult this year for any HC to recruit successfully. However, for 2 million, they better be able to.

Jimmy Tubbs thought the SMU job was the best job there was. Phil Bennett wanted to coach at SMU. When you get the coach who really wants to be here, its not always a panacea.

What's interesting now is that because of the delay, Fran probably would get the better recruiting class, but Jones would make the most sense from a PR standpoint.

I'm so beaten down at this point, I would be good with almost any named candidate.

Shoot, he'd go to 2A Linden-Kildare (enrollment 274) as a 9th grade football/basketball coach if Bennett would hire him. Doesn't look like he is anyone's 1st choice (or 2nd or 3rd or........).

Fran is no Jimmy Tubbs or Phil Bennett. I knew Coach Fran. He was a friend of mine (snicker). You, Mr. Quayle are no Fran.

Fran is no Jimmy Tubbs or Phil Bennett. I knew Coach Fran. He was a friend of mine (snicker). You, Mr. Quayle are no Fran.

Do you know him or is that just a Lllloyd Bentsen/Quayle reference? Only debate reference I like better is: "Who am I, why am I here?".
