but a guy that just won 12 games and played in a major
BCS Bowl would have to be a "Wow" hire for SMU

Is there a deadline on transfers? Maybe since JJ is so well liked he can bring some key players with him.

No deadline on transfers. Sam Keller transferred to Nebraska in August, and one of the ND QBs bailed in September. The key with transfers is whether or not the school will release you from your scholarship and the rules of the transfer. It usually requires you to sit out a year (and I think it counts as a year of eligibility?) and sit out for two years if you transfer within the same conference. I think these rules vary somewhat from school to school, however.

(Charlie Weis wouldn't let that QB out of his scholarship, so even though he got enrolled at [northern illinois, I believe?] in time to be able to spend his year on the sideline, he was not allowed to get a scholarship there and had to pay tuition for the year.)
