I preface this by saying, I have mixed feeling about this choice of Jones should it come to fruition.
That said, I do believe he will have a coach who teaches the position very well, understands the nuances and should challenge Justin far more than Justin has been challenged.
If guys like Tommie Chang and Colt Brennan thrived under Jones, then the chances for Justin to grow increase.
I've been saying since the TCU game, Justin regressed and this program needed someone who can teach the position. Jones' track record reveals that can happen. Justin had his best game against Memphis.
If he listens to Jones and takes to coaching, then it will happen. Justin even admitted that he had some growing to do in the offseason.
Question for the masses: I don't have great knowledge of the history of Hawaii's rosters, but outside of Denver's Ashley Lelei, haven't their WRs been most YAC guys and not big playmakers?

I watched the Fresno State game and HA had 2 quality recievers. At least one should be going pro.
Where oh where is Hayden Fry

Saw a stat a few weeks ago about Hawaii's top 3 receivers: Bess, Grice-Mullen, and Rivers. For their college careers, they each have over 3,000 yards receiving, over 200 catches, and over 30 TDs. I would say that is a fairly potent offense.

I would have to say the hiring of JJ would make JW a better QB. Our offense with JJ behind the wheel is like the offense rusty burns could never coach.
as for the UH WRs, Bess has declared for the draft as a junior. it will be interesting to see how he,so called system receiver fairs in the nfl. Wes Welkers been kicking [deleted] so for.

If he can make Colt Brennan a Heisman finalist with that gawd-awful release of his, he can definitely make Justin a better QB.
Just as importantly, there will finally be cohesion in the offensive system and playcalling. Ours has been a grab-bag for too long, with interference from Phil, etc.
And even more importantly, June Jones' hire would immediately get the attention of some HS qbs who wouldn't normally consider us. We're not going to get a Matthew Stafford right away, but I bet we get a better choice of QB to choose from. There were a lot of great junior QBs this year in the HS ranks.
That should also help the receiver recruiting, although probably not as much as we would hope. You can only carry so many good QBs before the backups get upset about playing time and transfer. Not as much a problem with receivers.
Question for anyone who's familiar with Hawaii's current offense: Do they ever use a tight end? The old run-and-shoot never did. At most, there was an H-back who was really a big RB, not usually tight-end size. I'm a believer in having a tight end at least in some packages.

I know their starting lineup for the Sugar Bowl included 4 WRs and 1 RB, no TE.

Colt Brennan is not half the QB JWill is. Put JWill on that TEAM and the same thing happens, except the Georgia game would have been closer. Brennan can't run an offense and he can't run. With todays defenses you must have a mobile QB. JJ talked bad about Tebow being in a system offense, well Brennan was in the worst one. JWill knows how to run a playbook and JJ will be able to run his entire playbook.
