As much as I sincerely hope June comes to the Hilltop, I am really getting the horrible feeling that this is not going to materlize.

Either that or Steinberg is doing what I guess any good agent would do and play SMU against UH with the hopes of maximizing his and June payout with the intent getting the most out of SMU or worse yet staying at Hawaii. All of sudden the entire process and negotations are in the press. So much for Orsini keeping everything secret ! Add to all of Jones wishy washy comments about leaving Hawaii and all I can think is the sleaze bag agent setting this all up to get a better offer from Hawaii.

Is there an NFL offer of some kind out there ?

What's up with the Hawaii press reporting the Monday press conference and no confirmation from local press or from SMU ?

Someone convince me that Jones will be SMU coach as of Monday !

Well he currently is unemployed and only has one offer on the table. He also is currently traveling to the city where that offer was made.

I agree. Unless the resignation report is somehow untrue, I see little chance JJ does not come to SMU.

Not trying to raise hackles, but didn't Hawaii just counter again, after the resignation letter? It's not over.

Odd then that it shows to have been created less than 45 minutes ago and is the top story on the college football wire on ESPN.

That article was originally posted earlier today. I think they expanded on the article recently which is why it says it was updated when it was

ESPS News just lead off with this being one of their top stories. Said "news on June Jones and a possible move to dallas"

You are right to be skeptical until a contract is signed and announced.
It is absolutely possible that there's an NFL offer out there for Jones that we don't know about. There were rumors about Atlanta being interested in Jones, but nothing concrete about that.

The reason I think Jones is coming here is the money on the table. Most of the possible NFL jobs he would get would be assistant coach positions. If he got a head coaching job it would be for more money than SMU is offering. There's just no indication that that's happening.

I think Jones likes the college game. He turned down the Chargers job to take the Hawaii job. I think he likes a good challenge. There is no better challenge in all of football (college or pro) than to try to turn around the SMU program. If anyone can do it, he can. If he can, he'll be a hero here for years to come. That makes it a very attractive opportunity.

After the Bobby Petrino fiasco, there is no way that an NFL owner is going to dip into the college ranks any time soon.

Well said plano... I think that step one APPEARS complete with Jones resigning. But that in no way guarantees step 2 (signing with SMU). However it sure seems promising that he's decided to resign from his old job on the way to an interview with his possible new employer all with a supposed press conference setup for Monday. Not saying this is a done deal, but it's not like he's now sitting in Hawaii and waiting for people to contact him.

It would be a gamble on Jones' part to resign from one job unless he's got the next one lined up.
Here's to those that wish us well and all the rest can go to hell!!!

Let me add to what I just said. Steinberg is quoted as saying Jone is also considering an NFL job. But what sort of job? Head coach? Assistant coach? Who knows.

If it was an NFL head coaching job, I think we would have heard something more definitive from somewhere. We haven't. If it's just an offer to be an Offensive Coordinator, it doesn't seem likely he'd get as much money as SMU is offering.

This is kind of like the fed up wife who has filed for divorce. At this point it's usually too late to offer chocolate, buy flowers and make promises. She's on her way to the new boyfriends house and she purposefully forgot to wear undies.

Hawaii had 9 years to get it correct and they failed.

If there were any chance of June staying at UH he wouldn't have written that resignation letter. I don't see how he could come back from that, especially a few days before the dead period ends.
