Sellout

Postby MustangMan2001 » Sat Jan 05, 2008 10:21 pm

So does JJ coming to SMU, if it happens, guarantee a sell out to his first home game.. I know I will be there along with atleast 10 friends and family members

did Doherty pack em in? No. Don't expect the guy on the sidelines to produce sellouts, got a long way to go for even respectable crowds at Ford or Moody.

Football is 100 times more important to SMU fans than basketball (sorry basketball fans).

It's a guaranteed sellout.

JJ is a lot better hire than Doherty, who was fired from his alma mater after three years. However, both are big names.

Doherty knew what he was getting into. The fan factor at Moody isn't good, but it's not as bad as the situation has been at Ford.

I agree that if we get this guy we ALL need to get every SMU fan we know to get a ticket to the first game and go. It needs to be a huge boiserous SMU crowd at Ford.

i dont know who we are playing, but it aint gonna happen. Unless we open with the Red Raiders and they wont be there to see JJ. Bet you any amount of money that we don't draw 20k SMU fans no matter who we play.

They do? I've never seen an entire house there. Maybe around halftime at Homecoming, but then they leave when the candidates are announced. Our students suck.

ok slight exaggeration, but def. more support from them to football than basketball, and who could blame them when we haven't been good in 20+ years

I can blame them. We sucked for most of my time at SMU, but I missed a grand total of 1 home game in my 4.5 years at the school. I also traveled to quite a few away games (at least 1-2 every year) not including TCU which I never missed. If you are a fan, you go to the games. Whether the team is good shouldn't matter.

That is so true. Our students are spoiled and self centered. Especially the guys - you have to be a total wimp to not go to every home basketball and football game while you are at your school.

i dont want a sell out for one game i want steady improvement, the seats will be filled in their own time, i realize that i will probably be an alumni before SMU is close to resurrecting itself and im ok with that as long as a see the team get better, to be honest i would be worried if we overachieve the 1st year with JJ and then relapsed. i can live with a 4-8 season as long as the next one is at least 5-7 or 6-6

the average SMU student doesn't know what a June Jones is or how successful he was at Hawaii and how much hope he can bring to our program. our avg. attendance may be around 18k as opposed to 11k

It's unfortunate that a lot of the current SMU students have no interest in supporting their sports teams, and have no conception of the tradition SMU has -- especially in football. But a hire such as June Jones, and some winning seasons, should bring the real men (and women) back to campus.
